NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library Board of Trustees has announced that Library Trustee Greg Varian has resigned from the NRPL Board of Trustees, effective March 16, 2018.  Mr. Varian cited personal reasons for the resignation.

First, city officials were joined by executives from RXR Realty to break ground on a new, dual-28-story, mixed-use complex at the site of the Church Street-Division Street parking garage at 26 South Division Street.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Association of Division III Independents announced on Thursday March 15th that Coach Gerald Davis was selected as the Coach of the Year for Women's Basketball. Senior forward Caitlin Harrison (Bronx, N.Y., Academy of Mount Saint Ursula) and sophomore guard Dar'Neisha Brice (California, MD, Great Mills High School) were also named to the First Team All-Independent.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In its final day down at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C., the Monroe College softball team split its last two games against Camden County College and USC Sumter. The Mustangs picked up an eight-run rule victory over Camden County, defeating the Cougars, 8-0, in five innings, but suffered a late defeat to USC Sumter, 7-6, to close out the day. The Mustangs leave Myrtle Beach with a 6-7 overall record.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College baseball team started its long weekend at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach on Thursday, coming away with a pair of victories against Delaware Technical Community College and Northampton Community College. The Mustangs defeated Delaware Tech, 5-0, before picking up a 4-2 win over Northampton. Monroe improves to 6-2 on the season with the wins.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- No. 2 seeded Duke used 13 made 3-pointers to its advantage in a 89-67 victory against the No. 15 seed Iona College men's basketball team during the First Round of the Midwest Region in the NCAA Championship at the PPG Paints Arena this afternoon.

The Blues Devils (27-7) shot 61.8 percent from the field in the first half that included nine made 3-point field goals to build a 53-39 halftime advantage, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Grayson Allen.

PELHAM, NY -- Pelham Art Center is delighted to present a closing reception and artist talk for Near To You, its current group show of portrait painting and sculpture. The reception will take place Saturday, March 24 from 2:00-3:30 and the artist talk will begin at 2:30 pm.

Washington, D.C.-based artist Tim Doud, and Brooklyn artists John Mitchell, Heather Morgan and Jenny Dubnau will be present to speak.  Artist Donna Festa will participate via Skype from Bangor, Maine. The artists will talk about their work and take questions from the public.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Schools will be in session on May 25 and May 29 - two days that students and teachers were scheduled to have off - to make up for the days that the City School District of New Rochelle was closed this week. That means Memorial Day weekend will last three days instead of five.

The District used its two original snow days on Jan. 4 and 5. The two days in May were backup days. They will be needed because schools were out on Wednesday and Thursday due to the snowstorm and recovery, which included clearing bus routes and restoring power to some buildings.

During his speech in the packed City Council Chambers, he asked the students to stand as he told the audience of what they had accomplished. They were:

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Twenty-five macroeconomics students from New Rochelle High School got a rare opportunity to watch stock traders in action - and the stock market gyrate - when they visited the bustling New York Stock Exchange last Friday.

The students peered in on traders who were utilizing hand-held electronic devices to execute trades, listened to brief talks from several specialists, and participated in question-and-answer sessions with them. The students chatted with Fox Business anchor Nicole Petallides and stood under the famous bell on the floor of the NYSE.

The 46 community members, City and School District officials and others represent a wide cross section of New Rochelle, including law enforcement, educators, parents, students, businesses, non-profits and faith-based organizations. Many of the members are New Rochelle High School alumni. They were chosen from nearly 300 applications.
