NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- As I was walking my dog around the lakes in Huguenot Park last Wednesday at about ten-thirty in the morning, I was verbally accosted and them menaced by “Angel”, a New Rochelle High School student. I reported the incident to officials at they school. When they declined to take action. I called the police to make a report. By the time police arrived, the group of students which included Angel, had left. The school school did not send a security guard to the scene.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A building inspector in New Rochelle has his mother-in-law to thank for a demotion and 10 grand pay cut.

Joseph Guglielmo was demoted from Senior Building Inspector to Code Enforcement Officer by the City of New Rochelle, with a corresponding reduction in pay of just over $10,000 a year (from $103,976.08 to $93,259.92, based on pay records obtained under a Freedom of Information request). The demotion occurred in August 2017 but was based on a 2012 inspection which recently came to light after City officials received anonymous complaints.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY —Test data obtained from the City School District of New Rochelle under a Freedom of Information request, states that out of 1,222 Isaac Young students 555 students took the 2017 ELA Exam and that 513 students took the 2017 Math Exam. The New York State Report Card states that 555 students took the 2017 ELA Exam but that only 178 students took the 2017 Math Exam (see previous article).

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Fire Department last week installed Automatic CPR devices, enabling them to deliver uninterrupted lifesaving circulation to patients in cardiac distress. Since their rollout, they have been placed in action four times.

A demonstration will be held at Fire Headquarters, 90 Beaufort Place on Wednesday, October 4 at 10:30 AM.

PELHAM, NY -- A touchstone is a reference point from which other things can be evaluated. The work was inspired by the way people interact with their community and public park space. The work is meant to highlight how Wolfs Lane Park is a touchstone for the community. Wolert is creating two large-scale “Touchstones” using materials of various textures intended for the participant to interact with by viewing and touching the textures/temperatures. She is interested in how the reflective nature of the beads will engage with the existing natural elements and the changing light.

NEW YORK, NY -- The New York State Thruway Authority Board of Directors today approved the purchase of an enhanced Global Positioning System (GPS) for its fleet of 235 heavy-duty plows for the 2017 snow and ice season. The GPS enhancements will allow for real-time monitoring during plowing operations, including route tracking, air and pavement temperature and deicing material application rates for each truck engaged in storm response.
