NEW ROCHELLE, NY - As the community was reeling yesterday from the third major violent incident in 8 days with one assailant still on the loose, school officials were busy crafting propaganda to be sent by school members under the guise of personal emails to their “friends”. And herein lies a large problem in our district: a school board more concerned with Public Relations than actually solving problems.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A New Rochelle High School student was taken to the trauma unit at Jacobi Medical Center in serious conditions with multiple stab wounds after an assault Thursday morning. Police are looking for a suspect who fled the scene, the student assaulted yesterday by a group of 7 New Rochelle High School students. The suspect is the same student who stabbed a classmate at Isaac E. Young Middle School in May 2016.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School student Z’inah Brown appeared in City Court of New Rochelle this afternoon before Judge Anthony Carbone less than a week after she was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder in the stabbing death of classmate Valeree Schwab.

Brown was dressed in a black long-sleeve shirt, black pants and the same gray and maroon Nike sneakers she wore last week at her arraignment, this time with the shoelaces removed.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Dozens of New Rochelle High School students were detained by New Rochelle Police looking for weapons following a melee at a popular pizza spot across the street from the school.

The victim was eating alone at Gemmelli Pizzeria at 752 North Avenue when witnesses say a group of students attacked the student. The students involved in the melee smashed wine bottles, threw chairs and used utensils as weapons.

One student suffered a deep laceration to the hand. A school district employee accompanied the wounded student in an ambulance to a local hospital.

The New Rochelle Board of Education will take public comment at tonight's meeting at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall, 515 North Ave.

The meeting was originally scheduled as an executive session before today’s incident, but in response to inquiries and requests from the community, the Board has modified the meeting's format to incorporate time for public comment.

On view will be painting and sculpture by six exciting artists committed to the language and texture of paint and painting as well as challenging approaches to portraiture itself. What does it mean to capture the impression or image of a person? What is it that the viewer recognizes in a portrait? WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced an amnesty program for Tolls By Mail cashless tolling customers using the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. The three-week program, set to launch in February, will allow cashless tolling customers with open violations to receive amnesty.  Eligible motorists will receive a letter from the Thruway Authority and must pay all outstanding toll balances by February 21.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Police rescued a man in his fifties who fell through the ice on Monday evening off the shore of Five Islands Park in New Rochelle.

"He was in the water for about ten minutes," said New Rochelle Police Sergeant Christopher Castiglia. “He was taken to Montefiore Hospital (New Rochelle) and treated for hypothermia.”

Police did not have an update on the man’s medical condition.

“He is lucky somebody heard him,” said Castiglia. “Nobody’s out there walking around. He could have died.”
