NEW YORK, NY -- New York State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 3.9% in November 2018, reaching its lowest level on record (current records date back to 1976), according to preliminary figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor. In addition, the number of unemployed New Yorkers fell in November, from 387,500 to 379,400, its lowest level since August 1988.

Subsequent investigation resulted in the suspect in the shooting being identified.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School's junior varsity cheerleading squad is going back to the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship in February.

The team won a bid to compete in both Traditional Cheer and Game Day portions and achieved first place and fifth place finishes, respectively, in the Empire Regional Competition at Nassau Community College on Sunday. The teams were scored based on their overall performance, motions, impression, difficulty of stunts, execution, dance and cheer. New Rochelle competes in the Large Junior Varsity Division.

The culturally inclusive show explores the astronomical meanings behind seasonal traditions such as the "Star of Bethlehem."

"The show explains how different cultures and religions light up the darkest part of the year," said planetarium director Bruce Zeller.

The songs and musical pieces celebrating the holidays, the season and just pure fun span two nights.

On Wednesday, musicians take the stage with the Winterfest Instrumental Concert. The WinterFest Choral Concert follows on Thursday. Both begin at 7 p.m. The Whitney Auditorium is near the high school's main entrance at 265 Clove Road.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A workshop on Restorative Practices will be held for parents and guardians of students in New Rochelle High School, Albert Leonard Middle School and Isaac E. Young Middle School at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7 in NRHS.

The plan for the workshop stemmed from the high level of interest in Restorative Practices expressed by community members who attended the Board of Education's Nov. 14 Town Hall meeting on the topic.
