NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- As first reported by Talk of the Sound on Wednesday, school officials have confirmed a four-inch swastika was found inside New Rochelle High School.

The incident comes two weeks after 11 people were murdered at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh on October 27th.

NEW YORK, NY -- A Federal Judge has effectively ended a 2016 lawsuit filed by New Rochelle House Principal Shadia Alvarez in which she sought to cast herself as a victim after a New York City Department of Education Office of Special Investigation sustained charges against her related to theft of services and failure to follow required financial protocols.

Alvarez is currently under investigation in New Rochelle for her role in a grade-fixing scandal involving Apex Credit Recovery.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Without prior explanation, public announcement or notice to prospective bidders, the New Rochelle Board of Education abruptly pulled a Request for Proposal for Legal Services.

The RFP was distributed on the District web site, BidNet and in the Journal News in October with a deadline of November 13th at 11:00 a.m.

The original RFP required that interested bidders indicate their intention to bid by October 31st. Talk of the Sound has requested the list of prospective bidders.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A New Rochelle public school teacher has alleged she was sexually assaulted in her classroom. The incident occurred during the school day. Police were not called to the school and no charges were filed.

Multiple sources have confirmed that a female teacher made an immediate complaint to her building principal and her union representative after a male behavioral consultant, hired by the special education department to work in her classroom, rubbed his hand up and down her spine and unsnapped the clasp of her bra.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Golfers who are currently enrolled in the E-Z Reserve weekend tee-time reservation program for Westchester County courses can book the same tee time/day for the 2019 season, Thursday, Nov.1, through Friday, Nov. 30.

E-Z Reserve enables golfers with a valid Westchester County Park Pass to book a starting tee time on weekends for a series of weeks at their choice of the six courses.

If an existing holder is not interested in keeping the specific time and day, the time will be made available to all golfers in December.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York announced today that DAVID OHNMACHT, a registered sex offender, was sentenced to 390 months in prison for enticing a 14-year-old girl via Instagram to engage in sexual conduct and for engaging in this criminal conduct while a registered sex offender.  OHNMACT manipulated the girl into taking sexually-explicit images of herself and sending them to him online.  OHNMACHT pled guilty on September 3, 2014, before U.S. District Judge Nelson Roman, who imposed today’s sentence.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Eric Lee, 26, of Mount Vernon pleaded guilty to Murder in the First Degree in the death of Trevon Boswell and seven other charges in connection with a twelve-hour violent crime spree that began May 21, 2017. The series of violent robberies spanned several jurisdictions including Mount Vernon, New Rochelle and Yonkers in Westchester County as well as parts of the Bronx. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 18, 2018.

Lee and four co-defendants were arraigned on a 50-count indictment in July 2017.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School has designated its top ranked students in the Class of 2019 - valedictorian Eliza Crocker and salutatorian Zachary Stone.

Both of the seniors have taken the most rigorous math and science classes, while also making time for extracurricular activities.

Crocker is captain of the Mathletes, president of the school's Junior State of America chapter, a member of the Math Honor Society and the National Honor Society and an executive with the Ignite mentor program.
