NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Teachers at a New Rochelle elementary school are expressing grave concerns about violent behavior by students towards staff and school administrators.

According to a formal complaint filed last Thursday, there was an incident last year where “a student told one of the aides that he was going to bring in a gun and shoot his teacher.” The same student, according to the complaint, assaulted a teacher the year before, injuring that teacher.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Dual Language second graders at Ward School showed their public speaking skills in English and Spanish when they explained to their parents and teachers why Cinco de Mayo is celebrated.

With May 5 falling on a Saturday, they celebrated a day early, on Friday.

They also celebrated by performing the traditional “Jarabe Tapatío," the Mexican national dance. The children dressed in typical Mexican clothing. The two classrooms also enjoyed a feast of Mexican dishes, which their parents had generously contributed.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Forty-six New Rochelle High School students had the opportunity to experience a day in the workplace and to explore careers in My Brother's Keeper New Rochelle's second annual "Take a Student Ambassador to Work Day."

They chose from among 16 businesses in the event, which coincided with Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on April 26.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- About 120 Isaac E. Young Middle School eighth graders learned about our rich local history (and spotted plenty of jellyfish) when they sailed the shoreline on the Shamrock IV and strolled Glen Island Park to read the plaques with notes about the past.

New Rochelle City Historian Barbara Davis was their guide on the charter boat as they viewed sights such as Hudson Park and 80-acre Davids Island

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Multiple sources have confirmed arrests of United States Postal Service employees. Sources say as many as 5 people were arrested as of Tuesday.

USPS officials have repeatedly denied there have been any arrests.

Allegations related to moving drugs and cash through the mail, stealing checks, check washing and more. One scheme reportedly involved employees “renting out” keys to Post Office Boxes so confederates could loot the contents of the PO Boxes.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Jose Olmos, 29, a homeless man living in New Rochelle, was indicted and arraigned for murder in the death of a homeless woman outside a vacant armory building on Main Street.

A Westchester County Grand Jury indicted Olmos on three charges: Murder in the First Degree, a class A violent felony, and two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, also class A felonies, in the beating death of Nurten Seljuk July 27, 2018. Olmos’ next court appearance is Dec. 5, 2018.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life without parole.
