NEW ROCHELLE, NY --  Carlos Rodriguez picked up his first career hat trick with three goals in the first half to help lift the No. 2 Monroe College men's soccer team to a 10-1 victory in its home opener at City Park against Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) Saturday evening.

Rodriguez led an eight-goal first half for the Mustangs with his three scores. Gabriel Machado and Lucas Nishioka each totaled four points on the evening with a goal and two assists apiece.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Sophomore quarterback Sean Kelly fueled the Mustang offense to a huge day, as the Monroe College football team rolled to a 56-20 victory on the road on Saturday against Hocking College at Boston Field to open the 2017 campaign with a win.

Kelly registered four total touchdowns in Saturday's victory. He passed for two of them after going 18-of-29 for 167 yards in the air. Kelly rushed for two more scores, and tallied 39 yards on nine carries.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Gabriel Machado improved his season total to five goals in just two games after his hat trick on Sunday led the No. 2 Monroe College men's soccer team rolled to a 7-1 victory over Louisburg College in the finale of the CCBC Essex Tournament. Monroe comes out of opening weekend with a 2-0 record, while Louisburg heads home at 0-2.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The volleyball team opened up the season with three matches this past weekend. The Blue Angels captured the win in their first match of the weekend against Sarah Lawrence College holding the control from the beginning. The three set sweep finished with scores of 25-15, 25-11, and 25-18. The team finished with 32 kills. The leaders were sophomores Imani DeBose with 7 kills and Cristal Michelle Liciaga had 6 kills. Senior Fabiola Angeli Padilla Rios had perfect night attacking finishing with 4 kills off four attempts.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- York scored one goal in each half to seal the victory over the CNR men's soccer team by a 2-0 score Saturday at Flowers Park.

York (1-0) def. CNR (0-1), 2-0

KEY MOMENTS

Cesar Rodriguez led the Blue Angels with 3 shots on goal, Ricardo Casimir followed with 2 shots on goal while David Corredor and Xavier Cruzata each tallied one shot on goal.  York goalkeeper Nigel Sampson finished the match with 7 saves.  York committed 13 fouls compared to 5 for CNR.  CNR had 8 corner kick attempts while York only recieved 1 attempt.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- With the opening weekend of competition upcoming this weekend for the Iona College cross country program, it was announced on Monday by the USTFCCCA that the men's team was ranked second in Preseason Regional Rankings while the women's group was slotted 10th in the Northeast Region.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A day after being ranked second in the region, the Iona College men's cross country team has been slotted eighth in the NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Preseason National Coaches' Poll according to the USTFCCCA. 

Northern Arizona received seven first place votes to earn the top spot in the preseason poll, ahead of Stanford and three first place votes. Syracuse and Colorado were honored with the final two first place votes, ranking third and fifth with Arkansas checking in at four.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A pair of Binghamton goals within 43 seconds of each other in the first half put Iona behind the eight-ball as the Bearcats hung on for a 2-0 victory over the Maroon & Gold.  Senior goaltender Tiffany Martinez made eight saves in the defeat.

Bearcat freshman Dora Hayes scored her first collegiate goal at 14:13 from just outside the eighteen-yard box.  Just moments later at 14:56, redshirt junior Kayla Saager netted her fourth goal of the season from 30 yards out.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona men's water polo team were defeated in both contests in day two of the Navy Open. The Gaels fell 6-4 in a defensive battle against Gannon, and were defeated 9-8 in a hotly contested battle against the host Navy minutemen.

Game 1 – Iona 4, Gannon 6

Iona was unable to upend Gannon in the morning contest, falling 6-4. Marc Stauble scored two goals, and Patrick Hudak and Andrew Judge each tallied a goal. Sebastian Van Reeken started in net, making 15 saves and collecting six steals.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College volleyball team (1-0) opened up its 2017 season with a dramatic five set win over NJIT (0-1).  The Gaels took the first two sets 25-17 and 25-22 before dropping the third and fourth, both by 19-25 decisions.  The Maroon & Gold used a 5-1 stretch midway through the final set to corral its first victory of the season.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- With the announcement of the 2016-17 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll today by the conference office, Iona College increased its school record with 199 student-athletes on the list. It was the fourth highest among MAAC full-time and associate member schools. For the sixth straight year, first-year student-athletes completing two semesters at the institution were eligible for the list.

The 199 Maroon & Gold student-athletes honored represents nearly 65 percent of those eligible for the Honor Roll.
