NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Grad student Sam Cassell Jr. scored a game-high 28 points in his Iona College men's basketball team debut but it was not enough in a 99-78 defeat at Florida State in non-conference action at the Tucker Center.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Despite a fierce second-half effort, the Monroe College Women's Basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday, falling to Union County College, 81-73. Three Mustangs players scored double figures.

Monroe held the lead several times throughout the first quarter, but ultimately entered the second trailing 19-16.  The Mustangs even led by as much as three points (11-8) on a steal and basket from Camilla Kilinc at the 5:25 mark.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- With the offense managing only two goals, the fifth-place Iona men’s water polo team fell 13-2 to fourth-place St. Francis College (Brooklyn) in tonight’s opening match of the North East Water Polo Conference Championships hosted by Princeton University.

Junior Zach Roper and freshman Lloyd Quinn scored one goal each for the fifth-place Gaels (9-21).  Sophomores Bailey Lyons and Jason Hill had one assist apiece.   The offense made 16 turnovers.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona men’s water polo team celebrated its final game of the 2016 campaign with a 9-8 sudden-death overtime win over Massachusetts Institute of Technology Saturday night’s fifth-place match of the North East Water Polo Conference Championship hosted by Princeton University.

Junior Marc Stauble led the Gaels (10-20) with four goals, while junior Zach Roper and freshman Quinn Lloyd scored twice, and junior Patrick Judge had one goal. There were four Gaels assists on nine goals.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In their first ever meeting, the Duquesne Dukes came out with a 61-58 win over the Iona Gaels.  The Maroon & Gold came within inches of tying the game in the final seconds, but a pair of late three-point attempts by sophomore Alexis Lewis and senior Marina Lizarazu fell short.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College men's cross country team finished 10th overall at the 2016 NCAA Division Championship held at LaVern Gibson XC Course. It was the Gaels 14th Top 10 finish at the national championship in the last 15 years. All five scorers finished within 32 seconds of each other, the smallest spread among the first 20 teams in the standings.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle Men's Basketball team officially took to the court for the first time in program history Saturday afternoon against the hosts of the Penn State Harrisburg Tip-Off tournament.  And after holding a 32-30 halftime lead, the Blue Angels looked to spoil the home team's opener.  But, a late surge by Penn State Harrisburg gave them the 76-72 win over CNR.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --For the second straight game, freshmen Elijah Harris (Flushing, NY) led the upstart College of New Rochelle men's basketball team pumping in a team-high 18 points against SUNY Geneseo in the consolation game of the Penn State Harrisburg Tip Off Tournament Sunday afternoon.  But, it would not be enough as the Knights downed CNR 86-74 to move to 2-1 on the young season.  The Blue Angels fall to 0-2.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Men's Soccer team was one of two schools left standing at the end of the 2016 NJCAA Soccer Championship, but were bested by Tyler Junior College, 2-0, in the championship game on Saturday. The Mustangs finished the year ranked 2nd in the country.

The game was scoreless at the half, with the normally stalwart Monroe defense thwarting any Apache opportunity to score. The back line of Pablo Pertusa and Osman Fofanah combined with goalie Svyat Kozak to keep Tyler off the board in the first 45.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Nevada used a strong second half in a 81-76 win over the Iona College basketball team in an out-of-bracket contest associated with the GCI Great Alaska Shootout at the Lawlor Events Center. The Gaels led by 10 at halftime but went ice gold from distance in the second half in the defeat.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Despite a season-high 21 points and career-high 14 rebounds from sophomore Alexis Lewis, the Iona College women’s basketball program dropped a 73-68 contest to Navy on Monday evening.  The Midshipmen hit 10 three-point field goals and forced 25 Gael turnovers to hand the Maroon & Gold their second straight loss.

Iona jumped out to a 15-5 lead five minutes in and managed to grasp a 19-15 edge at the close of the first quarter.  Lewis had seven points in the period as the Gaels shot 57% to hold an advantage despite committing six early turnovers.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle men's basketball team earned the program's historic first victory on Tuesday night with a 93-87 win over visiting College of Saint Elizabeth.  It was the Blue Angels first ever home game at the Wellness Center and they gave the crowd lots to cheer about. CNR improves to 1-2 on the season, while the Eagles - who are also a first year program - drop their first contest of the year and fall to 2-1.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In a hard-fought, back and forth game against ASA College on Tuesday, a pair of sophomores stepped up in the last moments to help lift the Monroe College Men's Basketball team to an 80-78 victory. Sophomore Tyler Ancrum drove through the point and earned one of his four assists on a pass to classmate Hampus Ahlin, who sank a 12-footer with less than two seconds left, breaking a 78-78 tie.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Women's Basketball team improved to 3-1 at home on Tuesday with a 66-50 victory over Mohawk Valley Community College. The Mustangs are now 6-2 on the season and are more than halfway to last season's win total (10).

Monroe took the lead from the start. A Jada Banks jumper with three minutes left to the quarter gave the Mustangs a 10-point lead, 20-10. The Mustangs ended the quarter with a 16-point lead after a three-pointer from Lisana Burnett brought the score to 31-15.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Graduate guard Sam Cassell Jr. delivered 15 points and seven assists to power a big second-half surge for Iona College men's basketball team on Thursday as the Gaels outlasted Drake, 64-53, for a first-round victory in the GCI Great Alaska Shootout at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Maroon & Gold ended the game on a 14-1 run. Iona faces Weber State tomorrow at 12:00 am ET in the tournament’s second semifinal. The game can be seen on tape delay at 2:00 am ET on CBS Sports Network.
