‘AA’ Champion Gaels Add to Accolades with 2 Letter of Intent Signees

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Two of Iona Prep’s top scholar-athletes signed National Letters of Intent, sealing the next step to their academic and athletic careers.

John Tyrrell, 17, of the Bronx, will play football for the University of New Haven this fall. The 6-foot-five-inch, 300-pound senior was selected by the Catholic High School Football League (CHSFL) as All-League and named a Journal News All-County Honorable Mention player. Tyrrell was also a CHSFL Senior Bowl Participant and the starting left tackle for Iona Prep.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Sarah Niedzwiecki-Mecoy '00 just completed the Cape2Rio, a prestigious and iconic Cross Atlantic sailing race from Cape Town, South Africa to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil aboard the Lion of Africa Vulcan, a 42ft sailboat. Sarah was the only female bowman and only female member of a Grand Prix team.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Three cheers for the New Rochelle Special Olympics Team! The players wrapped up a successful soccer season, and this month began competing in floor hockey. The team's home floor hockey games will be played on Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 at Isaac E. Young Middle School, and on April 5 at New Rochelle High School. Mark your calendars and come out to support this awesome team!

Track & Field Takes Home the Hardware; 47 Medals in Season Opener

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Varsity and freshmen track and field team members opened the indoor season with some quality performances in winning 47 medals at the 67th Annual Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) Intersectional Relay Carnival at the New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory!

Freshman Chase Lombardo opened the 2016-17 season by winning the freshman 55-meter hurdles in his first-ever race.
