NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Musicians on stilts, giant bubbles, games and crafts are all part of the fun scheduled for the New Rochelle Public Library’s Summer Reading Kick-off event on Saturday, June 23rd, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. “Libraries Rock” is the theme of the 2018 Summer Reading Game, and NRPL will be celebrating   “reading rock stars” to help inspire children to soak-up a summer of reading pleasure.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Opera, Westchester’s longest running opera company, will present Giacomo Puccini’s La Boheme, from June 21-24, 2018 in the Frank J. Auriana Theatre at the Ursuline School, 1345 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. The production will be directed by Company co-founder and artistic director Camille Coppola, with orchestra and chorus conducted by Brian Holman, set design by Anthony Valbiro and lighting design by Adam Welsh. The opera will be sung in Italian, with English supertitles.

Natural patterns inspire the work of Elizabeth Knowles and William Thielen. Separately they have created individual bodies of work over the last 25 years. During this time they were engaging in a dynamic, verbal dialogue on aesthetics and philosophy. Resulting from this long-term discourse is the recent collaboration the site-specific outdoor installation ModernDance.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The “Sing Your Heart Out” Chorus, under the direction of Robert Puleo, will perform a joyous, uplifting program of music on Saturday, June 9, 2018, from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm, in the Ossie Davis Theater. The chorus has been rehearsing for months to present a lively concert celebrating life and happiness. Selections include Broadway show tunes, popular songs, a few classics, and a touch of fun opera. The performance is dedicated to the memory of Rosemary Tunney, who was a founding member of the “Sing Your Heart Out” program.

Victoria will be discussing current NYBG exhibit Georgia O’Keeffe: Visions of Hawai’i and drawing a correlation between art and botany.  The free lecture will be held on Wednesday, June 13th, from 5:30-7:30 pm.

PELHAM, NY -- On Friday, June 8th at 7:30 p.m. The Picture House Regional Film Center (TPH) will host an advance screening of the political docu-drama Shock and Awe followed by a Q&A with the legendary, Academy Award nominated actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner. The film is set to have its theatrical debut on July 13th.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A highlight from the PAVE Band & Orchestra Concert last night: The PAVE Orchestra filled the Linda E. Kelly Theatre in New Rochelle High School with the sounds of the "Capriol Suite," a work by a little-known English composer Peter Warlock, who lived 1894-1930.

Suzanne Morello, NRHS orchestra director, conducts.

Warlock set Renaissance melodies to modern harmonies, explains Marc Schneider, City School District of New Rochelle Director of Art and Music.
