PELHAM, NY -- The gallery ushers in 2018 with a stunning new portrait exhibition, Near To You. On view will be painting and sculpture by six exciting artists committed to the language and texture of paint and painting as well as challenging approaches to portraiture itself. What does it mean to capture the impression or image of a person? What is it that the viewer recognizes in a portrait? The exhibition will be on view January 19 – March 24, with an opening reception on Friday, January 19, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. A catalog will be published to accompany the exhibition.

PELHAM, NY -- Come celebrate the Year of the Dog!  Chinese New Year returns to Pelham Art Center on Saturday, February 10, 2018 with free, family-friendly activities.

From 1:30-2:30 pm, members of Kwan’s Kung Fu, from Peekskill, NY, will perform a traditional Lion Dance, believed in Chinese culture to scare away evil spirits and to bring good luck.   This is always a favorite with the kids!

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Are you ready for two nights of music for the season? The Winterfest Concerts are here!

On Wednesday and Thursday (12/20 & 12/21), the Whitney Young Auditorium will be filled with the sounds of the New Rochelle High School musicians, who are preparing for the winter highlight so grand it can't be held to one night.

On Wednesday, the Symphonic Band, Huguenot Orchestra and Concert Band will perform the Winterfest Instrumental concert. They will play pieces by Mozart, Leroy Anderson and others.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library will be closed on Sunday, December 24th and Monday, December 25th for Christmas observances. The libraries will resume regular operating hours on Tuesday, December 26th.

The libraries will also be closed on Sunday, December 31st for New Year’s Eve, and Monday, January 1st for New Year’s Day. The libraries will resume regular operating hours on Tuesday, January 2nd.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Join the New Rochelle High School PAVE art students at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday (11/30) as they open an exhibition of painting, sculpture, drawing and graphics created during the first marking period.

The works include those inspired by their trip to the The New York Botanical Garden to see the famed glass work of Dale Chihuly.

The exhibition will be on display through December in the bridge to House IV in NRHS.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Tchaikovsky would be in for a surprise if he attended the performances of The Nutcracker at New Rochelle High School this weekend, featuring some 80 New Rochelle students.

The Ajkun Ballet Theatre has incorporated some hip-hop into the seasonal classic. The students who portray the mice get to show their hip-hop skills, while others perform more traditional ballet moves. The students come mostly from the District elementary schools, with some from Albert Leonard Middle School and the private Thornton-Donovan School.

PELHAM, NY -- Join the Picture House Regional Film Center (TPH) on Sunday, December 10th at 3:00 p.m. for the Nutcracker Magical Matinee, an annual holiday tradition for families and kids of all ages. The cinematic version of New York City Ballet’s classic production brings George Balanchine’s choreography to the big screen. The Nutcracker will be presented in the Main Hall, at a special film event trimmed with beautifully costumed ballerinas from Ballet Arts greeting attendees upon arrival, a live dance performance, and photo opportunities.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library Board of Trustees has announced that Library Trustee Damon Maher resigned from the NRPL Board of Trustees at the Board’s November 9th meeting. Mr. Maher was elected County legislator for District 10 in the November 7th election. The Board is now seeking applications from residents interested in serving the remainder of Mr. Maher’s term, which will end on June 30, 2018.
