NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Wizard of Oz will be shown in the New Rochelle Public Library’s summer series of family films, on Monday, July 24 at 6:00 pm.  The 1939 musical stars Judy Garland as Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas who is swept away by a tornado with her dog Toto. Following the Yellow Brick Road to the Land of Oz, she befriends Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), Tin Man (Jack Haley) and the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), who join her in finding the Emerald City. The movie was based on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum and originally published on May 17, 1900.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The library’s series of Oscar-winning family films will continue on Monday, July 31st, at 6:00 pm, with the showing of Hugo. The 2011 film was based on the Caldecott Medal-winning historical fiction picture book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, by Brian Selznick and is about a wily and resourceful young boy named Hugo, who lives alone in the Gare Montparnasse railway station in Paris in the 1930s.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Free summer library programs for children ages six months to 5 years are being offered at the main New Rochelle Public Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library (HCL) beginning Monday, July 3 through Friday, August 11.  All programs are on a drop-in basis, first-come, first-served. 

Bouncing Babies, a Mother Goose program of songs, music, movement and a story for children 6 - 24 months, will be held on Thursdays, July 6- August 10, from 9:15 am 9:45 am in the children’s room of the main library and from 11:45 am - 12:15 pm at the HCL.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Six Oscar-winning films for the whole family to enjoy will be shown in the air-conditioned Ossie Davis Theater of the main New Rochelle Public Library on Mondays at 6:00 pm, with free admission. 

The series begins on Monday, July 3rd with the 1994 animated Disney classic, The Lion King. The voices of Matthew Broderick, Rowan Atkinson, and Whoopi Goldberg relate the coming-of-age adventure in which Simba, a lion cub who cannot wait to be king, searches for his destiny in the great 'Circle of Life.’ The film runs 88 minutes.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --From the weekend of June 24th through Labor Day weekend, the main New Rochelle Public Library is open from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm on Saturdays, and is closed on Sundays. The Huguenot Children’s Library, which is always closed on Sundays, will also be closed on Saturdays during the summer months.  Both libraries will be closed for Independence Day on Tuesday, July 4. They will also be closed Saturday, September 2 through Monday, September 4 for Labor Day. Regular hours will resume the following weekend.
