NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The scene was surreal at the Apple event to promote its new iPad tricked out with cutting-edge features for classroom learning. 

A gleaming new Apple store, overlooking the teal Chicago River. A stage set against a wall of windows. Apple CEO Tim Cook in the house. 

Enter the guest speaker: New Rochelle High School teacher Anthony Stirpe, there to talk about the curriculum he designed that uses iPads in the classroom as a storytelling device.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- With all the accolades New Rochelle High School senior Zahra Masih has been accumulating for her research in cancer treatments, it may be surprising to hear that she hadn't settled on science as a career goal when she entered the school.

"I came in with the mindset that I am going to try everything and I will shut my doors as I go along and whatever is left over, that's what I'll pursue," she said.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City of New Rochelle and Iona College announced today a comprehensive agreement that, when fully executed, will allow for the inward expansion of two campus buildings while addressing neighborhood concerns regarding the campus perimeter, and resolving recent legal disputes.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The planned move of New Rochelle city government offices from 515 North Avenue offers a historic opportunity for the City School District of New Rochelle to gain space for operations and classes.

The School District has shared the 121,000-square-foot building for decades, with city government on the ground floor and first floor and the District on the second and third stories. With the move, expected sometime in 2021, the School District will gain an additional 86,000 square feet of space for instructional space, offices and other uses.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Schools will be in session on May 25 and May 29 - two days that students and teachers were scheduled to have off - to make up for the days that the City School District of New Rochelle was closed this week. That means Memorial Day weekend will last three days instead of five.

The District used its two original snow days on Jan. 4 and 5. The two days in May were backup days. They will be needed because schools were out on Wednesday and Thursday due to the snowstorm and recovery, which included clearing bus routes and restoring power to some buildings.
