NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Readathon Scenes: The Jefferson Elementary School Book Fairy - also known as third-grade teacher Vicky Vessecchia - reads "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!" to students. Sounds like the pigeon's chances of getting behind the wheel are pretty slim!

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Albert Leonard Middle School music department wanted to raise funds to attend a spring music festival, and they had fun doing it - with a karaoke night in the school auditorium.

The festival, Music in the Parks, will be at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey in May.

In two fourth-grade classes, he read the book "Mr. Ferris and his Wheel," by Kathryn Gibbs Davis, about American invengot George Ferris and the iconic amusement park attraction that bares his name.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Police were called to Salesian High School in New Rochelle Wednesday following a threat to the school made by a student. The school was closed Thursday as a result.

Police sources say the student was removed from the school and sent for evaluation. The school was closed as a precaution.

“Yesterday we were advised that on October 6th one student made a threatening remark to another student,” said NRPD Captain Robert Gazzola. “We are investigating the incident but at this time we do not believe the threat was credible.”

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Pay it Forward Club at Albert Leonard Middle School took part in International Coastal Cleanup Day held on Saturday, September 16 by combing Five Islands Park for litter and debris. Thanks to the students, teacher Sara Yeterian and parent helpers, about 20 bags of bottles, cigarette butts, snarled fishing line and other debris were taken from the gem of a park jutting into Echo Bay.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In the spirit of doing good on September 11, members of the New Rochelle High School Varsity football team spent a Sunday brightening the day of some of their neighbors in need.

While many spent their days watching college and NFL football, players from the varsity football team took the time to deliver food as part of the “Meals on Wheels” program at the Schaffer Helen and Michael Extended Care Center in New Rochelle.

Having won a drawing for the honor, she greeted students, made announcements, visited classrooms, went over the plan for the day, sent emails and worked the phones.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Principal Carol Killebrew proudly announced that Sarah Ahn has been named a Semifinalist in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Competition based on her outstanding PSAT/NMSQT scores.

Semifinalists represent fewer than 1% of U.S. high school seniors and include the highest scoring entrants in each state. They now have the opportunity to compete for National Merit Scholarships.
