BEXLEY, OH — The New York Culinary Institute at Monroe College has been ranked among the Top 20 Culinary Schools by College Rank, a website dedicated to evaluating and ranking college programs and experiences.

Monroe College ranked #19.

CHARLOTTE, NC — If you have always wondered, wonder no more, Iona College has been sorted into Gryffindor, one of the four different Hogwarts houses from the Harry Potter book series by author J.K. Rowling. 

OnlineCollegePlan.com has sorted 60 of the nation's schools into Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff.

Iona College ranked 12th within Gryffindor.

Holy Name School Declines New Rochelle Board of Education Request to Use Building as a Polling Place

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Holy Name School will no longer serve as a polling place for school board elections in New Rochelle. The decision to decline the request of the New Rochelle Board of Education to hold the May 16, 2017 school elections at Halligan Hall came about after Holy Name changed from a parish school to a regional school of the New York Archdiocese.

In a letter dated December 13, 2016, Father Michael Challinor told School District Clerk Liz Saraiva that the Archdiocese’s safety environment policies bar allowing access to the school building during school days.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School faculty and staff will participate in an active shooter drill this Friday, Jan. 27 at 1:30 p.m. within the school building.

This is the first-ever active shooter drill that will involve school district employees. Up until today, the New Rochelle Police Department would run active shooter drills at night when the buildings were almost entirely empty except for the night cleaning staff who did not participate in those drills.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Demonstrating its continued support to the New Rochelle community and the ongoing revitalization of the North Avenue corridor, Iona College today announced plans for a community restaurant and market on North Avenue.

Called SAGE Café, the proposed restaurant and market will serve the needs for both Iona students and the broader community, and will be located in taxable commercial space on the ground floor of the newly built seven-story mixed-use facility located at 690 North Avenue -- the former site of the Mirage Diner.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Several weeks ago, I received an anonymous letter from a group identifying itself as “Educators at Jefferson Elementary School”. With no way to contact the group, I reached out to Principal Kimmerly Nieves along with senior school officials. None responded. The letter contains numerous serious allegations. In the absence of a response from Nieves, Osborne and others we feel compelled to share the letter and call for a full investigation into the allegations.

In an e-mail to staff, obtained by Talk of the Sound, Assistant Principal Daniel Goldberg asked that district employees notify the Principal's Office if they observe groups of students gathering late this morning.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Donald J. Trump was sworn in today as the 45th President of the United States, an event likely unfamiliar to most public school students in the City School District of New Rochelle. This after Schools Superintendant Brian Osborne banned any viewing or discussion of the nation's 58th Inaguration.

"Word came down from Osborne that nothing is to be shown or talked about involving President Trump," said one source.

"One teacher is in tears," the source added.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Congratulations to New Rochelle High School students Nicholas Townley and Steven Solar who each received a perfect score of 36 on the ACT test, a high school achievement and college admission assessment. The two are in elite company. According to ACT, fewer than one-tenth of 1 percent of all test-takers receive a perfect score. Out of 2.1 million testers in the graduating class of 2016, only 2,235 achieved the highest score. #perfectscores

The Breakfast was a huge success, welcoming 400 people from our community. Attendees were able to check-in for the parade onsite and have an opportunity to meet Frank Bernabei, this year's Grand Marshall!

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- "Anne Frank: A History for Today" opened at the Museum of Arts & Culture on November 3rd. The Museum has welcomed hundreds of community members and students from New Rochelle and beyond. Anne's message is as relevant today as ever! 

The Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect trained New Rochelle High School students to serve as docents. These students have enjoyed interacting with visitors over the past few weeks.

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.
