NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Last month, 89 students from Isaac E. Young Middle School took the School and College Ability Test (SCAT) to compete for entry into the Center for Talented Youth, a program run by Johns Hopkins University.

The school is proud to announce that 44 students made the cut for various programs.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Chinese dumplings, dim sum and even acrobats were part of a recent cultural experience enjoyed by students of Webster Elementary School's Kaleidoscope program as part of their Mandarin language class.

The 46 fourth and fifth-graders who learn Mandarin with Huanyue "Michelle" Wang, are in a two-year program featuring a rigorous and rich curriculum where they receive 40 minutes of instruction every other day. By the time fifth-grade is complete, they have a solid language footing.

The event is a collaborative effort organized by New Rochelle FOCUS and the City School District of New Rochelle. NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The City School District of New Rochelle is offering the powerful lesson of reconciliation by advocating restorative practices as a means of handling student discipline challenges.

The thinking behind this is that if students are offered a chance to correct a bad situation they created, it will become a teachable moment that helps them become responsible adults.

At Albert Leonard Middle School (ALMS), the faculty has begun offering social contracts to help students navigate conflicts and solve problems.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- On March 4, 2017 seven 12th graders in our Science Research program competed in the prestigious Regeneron Westchester/Putnam Science and Engineering Fair (WESEF). Our girls were among 570 students from 38 high schools whose work was judged and we are very proud of each of their original research projects. NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Department of Special and Alternative Education and New Rochelle SEPTA is hosting the City School District of New Rochelle's 13th Transition Fair on Monday, March 20, at 5:30 p.m.

The event, which will be held at New Rochelle High School's House 4 Cafeteria (enter on the entrance near Braemer Avenue), is for students with Individualized Education Programs or 504 plans and parents who are interested in learning more about transitioning from school.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle (CNR) has announced the election of Sister Kathleen Finnerty, OSU, to its Board of Trustees.

Sister Kathleen, a CNR alumna, is currently Superior of the Ursuline Community at the Province Center in New Rochelle. She also provides new principal mentoring for Catholic elementary and high school students and is a Board member of Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Delaware and Iona Prep in New Rochelle.
