Students Travel to England to Study Shakespeare

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Students enrolled in Iona College's Shakespeare in Performance class spent their spring break in England. During the trip, they experienced the theatres and the history of London, attending two plays by William Shakespeare -- Othello and Much Ado about Nothing -- and visited the birthplace and hometown of Shakespeare in Stratford Upon Avon. The group of 13 students also took a walking tour featuring Shakespeare locations around London. Additionally, the class cruised the River Thames and visited Oxford, Warwick Castle and the Cotswolds.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Jefferson Elementary School celebrated its 15th annual New York State Great Read Aloud Friday by inviting prominent community members, business leaders, elected officials and sports and entertainment figures to read stories to the school's 600 students.

Guest readers included New Rochelle Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne, state Senator George Latimer, District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson, New Rochelle Public Library Director Tom Geoffino and New Rochelle Police Detective Terrence Fudge, among others.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Anthony Stirpe, who leads the innovative writing and filmmaking program at New Rochelle High School, will receive the Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) award.

The distinction is given to a select handful of educators from across the world for setting trends and transforming the lives of students through technology. The award also recognizes the educators for bringing positive change to the school and the wider community.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The Middle School Drop-In Program offers a variety of activities for youth in grades 5th, 6th, and 7th (completed as of June, 2017).  It runs from June 26th - August 4th (no program on July 4th) from 10:00am to 3:00pm.  Activities include but are not limited to, arts and crafts, sports (basketball, volleyball and soccer), board games and much more.  Peanut-free lunch included.  The supply free of $60.00 is due at the time of registration. The program takes place at both middle schools (Isaac E Young Middle School and Albert Leonard Middle School).

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- David Diamond, Assistant Director of Special Education at New Rochelle High School, will return to work next week after an unexplained month-long absence. This according to an email sent yesterday to special education staff at the high school.

Joseph Starvaggi, NRHS Assistant Principal, responded to weeks of speculation as to the sudden disappearance of Diamond, saying:

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Westchester’s only all-boys Catholic school to make the “Best Catholic High Schools in New York State” and “Best Private High Schools in New York State” on Niche.com, Iona Preparatory has named Kieran Daly as its next Upper School principal. Mr. Daly, whose career has spanned more than 30 years at Iona Prep, currently serves as Dean of Students. He will become principal effective July 1, 2017. Mr. Daly has also served at the Upper School as a teacher, Dean of Freshman, Science Chair, Assistant Dean of Discipline and Director of Facilities.
