NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Residents approved the City School District of New Rochelle's proposed budget for the 2017-2018 school year Tuesday by a vote of 2,035 (4.5%) to 719.

2,754 votes were cast on the school budget referendum out of 44,951 registered voters in New Rochelle, 6.013%.

Just under 94% of registered voters in New Rochelle did not vote to support the budget.

The library budget passed with 2,083 votes (4.6%).

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Tuesday is Election Day for School Districts and Public Libraries in New York State.

In New Rochelle, there are budget referendums for the City School District of New Rochelle and the New Rochelle Public Library. The library budget exceeds the tax levy cap.

The race for Library Trustee is uncontested.

The race for two open school board seats is contested. The four candidates are Paul Warhit, Amy Moselhi, Moraydda Rosado, and Vince Malfetano.

Investigative Reporter Wendy Saltzman of WPVI-TV Action News, the local ABC affiliate, was alerted to Smith’s hiring on Monday after a viewer did an online search for “Freddie Dean Smith” and found numerous articles on Smith’s depraved, criminal past on Talk of the Sound.
