Has Jeff Hastie Lost His Independence?

May 18, 2009 - 05:33

In looking around at the campaign signs scattered about the city, you would think Mr Hastie has decided to ride the coat tails of Ms Polow .I was under the impression that he was a different kind of thinker, willing to improve things if elected. Mr Hastie, you have now become part of the problem, not the solution. You are now seen as Ms Polows "pet", ready to bark at her command. Everything you now do or say will be considered as suspect, as coming from the latest aperatchik or party hack who is just trying to protect the system the taxpayer has come to distrust. If you and your puppeteer become elected, I can tell you this much, everything she says or does will be held under the microscope, and anything you say or do will be considered to be coming from her mouth. It's sad, I thought you were different. Welcome to politics.
Polow must go-on the budget vote no.

New Rochelle Police Destroy Records in Child Pornography Case at Albert Leonard Middle School

May 17, 2009 - 15:35

Talk of the Sound has obtained police records, which show that New Rochelle police failed to fully investigate a report of child of pornography involving students from the Albert Leonard Middle School, failed to follow leads in the case which suggest the images was received and transmitted by adults and destroyed evidence in the case the returned the cell phone used to take nude photo of a child to its owner, minus the nude photo.

According to an incident report filed by Detective Ray Andolina, the youth officer for the New Rochelle Police Department, the incident first came to light on December 10, 2008 when a 14 year old student at Albert Leonard Middle School informed school principal William Evans of a nude photo being circulated via cell phone for over a week among students at Albert Leonard Middle School and New Rochelle High School. Sources tell Talk of the Sound this is the same full frontal nude photo of a 7th grade student which was obtained and distributed by a security guard at Albert Leonard and distributed to other district staff throughout the district including security guards and other staff at Isaac E. Young Middle School.

The 7th grade girl in the photo has since relocated to New Jersey. Her 14-year-old boyfriend took the photo.

Polow Proves Lack of Respect for Taxpayers

May 16, 2009 - 03:14

In my opinion, watching Ms Polow's tirade when someone had the gaul to ask a question only reinforces how out of touch this woman is with the responsibility of her position. But, then again, should we really be asking questions? I don't know if we could really understand the complex numbers and all that "stuff". Right? Do we really need to know what they do with our money. I'm just glad they're willing to let us give it to them. They shouldn't be expected to explain to us common folk how it's divied up. Right? What would we do with that info, what could we do with that info? I saw Ms Polow get really mad at the man with the question about the bond debt. He said on the Bruce Negrin show that he was really upset/apalled with her behavior. She was really mean and, as she pointed out, the man is the one who should know the answer, not her. She apparently is very busy and we shouldn't bother her with questions like that. Right? She's very busy spending our money and she does it well. So well, in fact, she told a bunch of other people, in public, that the district needs to spend more money. She said this is how they'll attract more people to the city, with more kids. Does anyone have some extra rooms in their house, you see , the schools are full and they'll need them for extra classrooms.

Music is "Part of Me"

May 16, 2009 - 00:17

Introducing the topic of Irish music and spirituality, Jesuit Rev. Ryan Duns felt a neglected type of interface was "we play the way we pray and we pray the way we play."  In Ireland it is a tradition to stand at the tip of the western part of the island when someone is leaving for the United States because that is the last time and place they would see that person.  When Irish people came the this country their view changed, but they felt the could always "dance later."  The tin whistle is a traditional Irish instrument.  Riverdance, the Irish dancing competition, surged on the scene in l995.

Rev. Duns entered the Society of Jesus in 2004.  His love of music was soon recognized and in 2006 he was sent to New York City.  At Fordham University he was challenged to creatively teach Irish Music in 16 one hour sessions.  The tin whistle is similar to a recorder and costs about $10.  He told members of the New Rochelle Irish Benevolent Society he knew how to play it because he had owned two of them since he was 12 years old.
