Organisciak Claims "Chokehold" Gym Teacher Not Employed by New Rochelle School District

June 17, 2009 - 16:15

56C42A55-9E3C-420A-8C6A-CAAE6C2335EF.jpgAman Ali has a story up over at the Journal News describing a foul-mouthed rant by Daniel Sanabria, the 58 year-old substitute Physical Education teacher at Webster Elementary School who is now facing criminal charges stemming from allegations that he put a 10-year old student in a "sleeper" chokehold and dragged him around a gymnasium floor. New Rochelle Community Pulse -- the blog that broke this now widely reported story here on Talk of the Sound -- has updated their blog post on this incident.

Now fully lawyered-up, Sanabria used a "string of expletives" to portray himself as the victim in the case.

I have a few questions about what Talk of the Sound and the Journal News have reported on this matter so far.

As New Rochelle High School Graduation Day Approaches Ask "What Are We Celebrating?"

June 16, 2009 - 19:59

DA913ABA-D1D2-47FD-814E-ED00226371BC.jpgOn Wednesday, June 15, 2009 over 600 New Rochelle High School students will march in a graduation ceremony and receive -- an empty folder. One of the school district's "dirty little secrets" is that none of the students marching tomorrow will actually receive a diploma because many of the students marching will not have earned a diploma but are being allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony anyway. Rather than damage their self-esteem or cause them to feel less important than those who actually earned a diploma, they are being allowed to participate based on a "promise" that at some point after June they will complete missing courses and pass required state exams. Based on the New York State Report Cards, no one is keeping track of how many students march in the graduation and then failed to make good this "promise".

New Rochelle High School's House 4 Offices Phoneless: Unfortunate Malfunction or Perfect Timing on Their Part?

June 15, 2009 - 22:56

9734EC9F-5B74-4C63-B86B-08D53A582521.jpgNew Rochelle High School's House 4 telephones have been out of operation since Friday, June 12. A very upset parent spoke with me today about he and his wifes frustration concerning the counseling their daughter has been receiving while attending the 11th grade.

"They (counselor)say they're gonna call you back, and they never do. Since last week, we have been waiting for my daughters counselor to call us back after being told we had to wait for a team meeting. As of Friday I started calling the answer. I called the main number and was told the phones were out of order and I should email the counselor. I response. My wife called repeatedly today, no answer. It's just so frustrating. The no return of phone calls has been going on all year."

Four Students Assault, Rob Student at New Rochelle High School

June 15, 2009 - 20:21

In yet another "isolated incident", four New Rochelle High School students jumped another student at New Rochelle high school on Friday. Three of the students were in court this afternoon. I happened across them standing out in front of the police station where they were smoking cigarettes, talking about prior arrests for drugs and purposely blocking the sidewalk so that visitors to NRPD had to step into a ditch dug next to the sidewalk; the area around the police station is torn up due to ongoing construction work (courtesy of PAB Contracting, the family company of Anthony Bongo, principal at Isaac E. Young Middle School).

I have requested the NRPD report but there were four students involved, they took the victim's Blackberry Storm. A fourth suspect is still at

UPDATE: NRPD is conforming a robbery occurred within New Rochelle High School on Friday, June 12th. Three 16 year old students were arrested. The DA still needs to determine if they are eligible for youthful offender status in which case names will not be release (if you know, add a comment).
