Battle of the Division Street Bridge Continues to Rage; Local "Artists" Take on New Rochelle D.P.W.

June 09, 2009 - 18:47

On April 24 we reported on a self-initiated neighborhood beautification project at the Division Street Bridge near the New Rochelle train station:

Last Wednesday night, nearly every panel on the south side of the highway overpass on Division Street was decorated by local youths who like to wear color-coordinated clothing to express their affinity as part of a later night volunteer effort to beautify local construction projects. By the end of the day clean up crews and inexplicably removed the "art"

Over the weekend the "artists returned". Some of the art from last April remains on an electrical box on the bridge and on the side of parking garage at Avalon. Most likely the City of New Rochelle cannot remove artwork painted onto Con Ed equipment or a privately-owned garage so those may remain a while.

Meanwhile, enjoy the latest art show while you can:

New Rochelle Police Department Brings Gang Resistance Program to Isaac E. Young Middle School

June 09, 2009 - 16:24

Overcoming years of resistance by the City School District of New Rochelle which has been loathe to acknowledge gang-related problems in some New Rochelle schools, the New Rochelle Police Department has successfully launched a new gang resistance program which is currently being tested at the middle school level.

Over the winter, three New Rochelle police officers were sent to Utah for two weeks of training where they were certified as instructors of the G.R.E.A.T. Program, a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. With prevention as its primary objective, the program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership.

The officers will soon wrap up a 13-week pilot program at the Isaac E. Young Middle School in what they hope will be the first of many courses taught in the New Rochelle public schools. G.R.E.A.T. lessons focus on providing life skills to students to help them avoid using delinquent behavior and violence to solve problems. The G.R.E.A.T. Program offers a continuum of components for students and their families.

District Attorney Visits Home of New Rochelle School District HVAC Employee Vito Costa

June 08, 2009 - 16:45

The District Attorneys office made a visit to the home of Vita Costa to introduce Mr. Costa to his alleged charges of theft of services. FACT that he was put on immediate suspension from his job. FACT that he was stripped of his keys to any district property and forbidden to enter the buildings. FACT that he has hired his own attorney to handle the charges. FACT that his attorney wrote a letter to Superintendent asking permission for Costa to enter the school from which his child was graduating from to attend the ceremony (of which he was granted). FACT that Costa has threatened to involve others within the district that, according to him, were well aware of what was going on. Perhaps John Gallagher?? Just a guess on my part. Day by day this story unfolds and I will be right here to inform you and the readers of the FACTS.

Who is Dominic Procopio and Why is He Chairman of the Municipal Civil Service Commission?

June 08, 2009 - 10:20

Why is Domenic Procopio, a man that can hardly speak English, who doesn’t have a degree from any accredited college or university within the United States or any other country, hold the position of Chairman of the Municipal Civil Service Commission, which is part of The New Rochelle City Government?

His background is in Barbering and being president of a small Italian social club.
Who in City Government appointed this man and why was he appointed?

I, along with every City Tax Payer, sense foul play and demand explanations as to who this man is and why he holds this position, knowing full well how unqualified he is?

Did News Channel 12 Investigative Report on New Rochelle Sexaholics Anonymous Meeting at Catholic Church Cross The Line?

June 07, 2009 - 04:45

5AE37BEC-6F63-4C9D-8A95-3115009D214C.jpgIn an breathless "expose" that only Will Ferrell's "Ron Burgundy" character from Anchorman could love, an obviously inexperienced "investigative" reporter for a local cable news organization climaxed her over-the-top report by melodramatically bursting into a closed meeting of Sexaholics Anonymous "demanding answers" to her "disturbing questions" and expressing "frustration" that the startled sex addicts would not interrupt their meeting to sit down with her for impromptu on-camera interviews.

donny henry portrait for ALMS yearbook.jpgAfter more than six months of stonewalling, the City School District of New Rochelle is now confirming a story first broken on Talk of the Sound of a sexting incident at Albert Leonard Middle School and the involvement of Donna Henry, a former school security guard who is currently awaiting reassignment as a "cleaner" on the night shift at New Rochelle High School.

Aman Ali has a front page story in the Journal News, School guard faces demotion, accused of failing to report effort to stop rumored "sexting"
