Shapes of Things to Come for New Rochelle? Mass Arrests in NJ Corruption Case

CNN is reporting mass arrests of local officials in New Jersey corruption case. I sure hope of folks in New Rochelle are paying attention:

About 30 people, including some New Jersey mayors and several rabbis, were arrested Thursday in a federal investigation of public corruption, the U.S. attorney's office in Newark, New Jersey, said...Among those arrested in the public corruption portion of the investigation are Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano III, Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell, New Jersey Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt and Leona Beldini, a Jersey City deputy mayor.

Apparently some Rabbis were involved in laundering money as part of the scheme.

The Mystery of the LeCount Square Proposal

The Leount Square development proposal is becoming more mysterious and chaotic every day. The nursery school on the property is planning to reopen and other shops have opened.

The Journal News is
reporting on the comings and goings
.

The Final Environmental Impact Statement was approved a long time ago.

So how can our City Council continue to approve "renewals" (already 12 have been given) for Cappelli's agreement when, as Mayor Bramson stated on WVOX Tuesday (7/21)more zoning changes are still needed for the development?

Can anyone clear up the logic of Council's approvals of this project?

Is Hartley House on the Chopping Block (again)?

The $9.8 million Legacy grant reported in the Sound Report which is to be used to renovate City Park ($8.5 million) and to repair roads ($1.3million) also requires the city to maintain 15.7 miles of county roads.

The grant also requires the city to construct 185 units of affordable housing which raises the rather obvious question: Where does the city plan to build affordable housing? An even bigger question is why the City of New Rochelle is suddenly in the construction business?

Does this make anyone else wonder what is going on here?

Does anyone remember this story from The New York Times?

Commissioner Carroll, a former New York City police inspector who took over as commissioner in New Rochelle in 1995, announces an ambitious plan that he vows will change the projects' police problem. He sets up the same type of community policing progams in New Rochelle that he instituted in several of New York's toughest neighborhoods in the early 1990's.

New Rochelle Schools Try Another Fast One with Next Week's Board Meeting

DSC_0595.jpgAt the last BoE meeting Julia Maxine Robinson was pretty darn angry and vowed to start coming to board meetings to keep an eye on things. After the meeting she confronted Schools Superintendent Richard Organisciak and asked to know when the next school board meeting was scheduled because she planned on being there. Organisciak told her there were no board meetings until September. Overhearing this, I took Robinson aside and told Robinson Organisciak was intentionally misleading her, that last year there were multiple board meetings in July and August and I saw no reason why that would not be the case this year.

Yesterday the District posted a number of announcements to the NRED web site including newly scheduled meetings of the school board. If someone can let her know, I believe Ms. Robinson will want to know that Organisciak flat out lied to her.
