Halloween House Gets Hit by Habitat

November 23, 2009 - 03:25

There is a south end house known for ghoulish Halloween decorations that has disconcerted some Trinity protective PTA moms for years. The house at 185 Pelham Road has had hanging corpses and bloody bodies in cages. Now it is undergoing a major renovation by New Rochelle Habitat for Humanity. This weekend West Point Cadets joined local volunteers in completely gutting the once charming but more recently derelict, slate-roofed cottage style house on the corner of Pelham Road and Mt. Etna. Click here for pictures from Saturday -

Over the last month, neighbors rejoiced to see major dead tree limbs and healthy poison ivy vines removed and other visible changes to the yard. This is a welcome sight to the neighborhood; especially after a summer fire destroyed the house's detached garage and badly damaged the siding of the next door house. Major renovations are going on inside the house as well.

Board of Sanitization

November 22, 2009 - 23:06

Religiously faithful to their dogmatic character of being two-faced and spineless, the Board of Ed. and the High School Administration have once again whitewashed another incident.
After a superficial and perfunctory investigation the School artfully exonerated the sick-psycho who brought his daughters into the Boys Locker Room. They acquitted the purulent idiot predicated on his lying testimony that he didn’t do it, despite members of the football team, coaches, other security guards, and a Security Supervisor, who witnessed the impropriety.
This is just another example of the cunning deception and tactics the BOE imposes on New Ro to sustain a pseudo-sanitized image of the High School.
The time has definitely come to reorganize and radically change the structure of the Board by eradicating the antiquated process of selection.
Instead of candidates being elected “at large,” they should be elected by “District” like the City Council. And they should also be paid like the City Council to create incentive and a full sense of accountability.
What we have now is an inherent manipulation and exclusive control of any proposed candidates by the Board.

New Rochelle High School Advances to State Championship Game

November 22, 2009 - 13:09

Trailing 14-0 against Saratoga Springs, the New Rochelle High School football team rallied late to win the AA Semi-Final Game in Kingston, NY and will play in next week's championship game at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY.

The Huguenots needed an interception on the final play of the game to hold of a furious rally by Saratoga Springs which scored a touchdown in the final minute and then recovered the ensuing kickoff.

New Rochelle Lashes Out at Police Union, Strome Unilaterally Terminates Agreement in Wake of Adverse Labor Board Ruling

November 21, 2009 - 15:16

City Manager Chuck Strome has given notice to New Rochelle Police Association that the City is cancelling an agreement between the City and the Union regarding overtime for New Rochelle police officers. The decision comes in response to a recent ruling by the New York State Public Employment Relations Board which requires the City to pay back years of overtime pay which could total over $1.5 million.

The move is widely seen among the rank and file of the New Rochelle Police Department as retaliation in the wake of the PERB ruling and adds another sour note to the City's relationship with its police union which has been under strain due to the current job freeze and the 2010 proposed budget which calls for a smaller police force.

The retaliation has become personal with New Rochelle Police Association President Eddie Hayes having been passed over four time's for promotion to Sergeant despite scoring high enough on the Sergeant's test to qualify for promotion each time.

phone numbers for BoE-small.jpg

The was some confusion after Tuesday's board meeting regarding my recommendation that the school board provide a single directory page so members of the community can easily communicate with school board members. The claim was made that because the telephone numbers of some board members are unlisted that no telephone numbers for any board members should be published on the district's web site. In fact, all of the board members home address and home phone numbers are listed in the white pages. As the board is not inclined to assemble these public directory listings into a single page on the district web site we have saved them the trouble here.

Eggo Shortage Strikes Nationwide! Harried Parents in Panic

November 19, 2009 - 16:50

The Associated Press is reporting a nationwide shortage of Kellogg's Eggo Frozen Waffles due to production problems at two of the four facilities that make the frozen breakfast food.

The existing stock of Eggos will be distributed nationally based on stores’ sales histories of the waffles, Charles said. “We are working around the clock to restore Eggo store inventories to normal levels as quickly as possible,” she wrote in the e-mail.

If you have noticed an Eggo shortage at your favorite New Rochelle grocery store report it here by adding a comment.
