Judge Gail Rice in her address cited former Mayor Tim Idoni for appointing her in l996 as the first Afro American woman to sit on this bench.  Acting Judge Anthony Carbone in his address reminisced about the first time he had to present a case as a lawyer and that it was in the New Rochelle City Court.  Jim Generoso, the Chief Court Clerk, organized the event and reception and was complimented by several people, including Carbone.

3433EA7E-5F26-48B0-8901-A74A6204E18F.jpgCraig King, Commissioner of Development for the City of New Rochelle, passed away last night after a valiant 3-year battle. Craig was one of the good guys in City Hall. He dealt with development on an individual, case-by-case basis. While our paths crossed a few times it was always respectful. Craig came from Boston and adapted quickly to New Rochelle. His opinions/decisions were always void of politics and that’s what made him one of my favorite people. There was always room for disagreement including the Yankee v Red Sox rivalry. His shoes as a person and a commissioner will be tough to fill. My condolences to his family

Comment on assault of Sutton Manor Resident; illegal apartments cause parking problem not Monroe College students

January 05, 2010 - 22:18

My family and I are most distressed by the assault on one of our neighbors here in Sutton Manor. While I appreciate the correction of the facts, I have to disagree with the conclusion that Monroe students are the ones parking in this neighborhood. The parking problem is caused by residents of the streets on the other side of Echo Ave., where there are a number of illegal apartments. Since they don't receive parking they park here in our neighborhood. We have had taxis, motorcycles and I have observed people parking and walking across Echo to the streets on the other side. If the city would investigate the proliferation of these dangerous and illegal apartments, we would not be overwhelmed by the traffic and dangerous conditions these cars cause. Because they park on both sides of the street, the entrances are narrowed to one lane, which would make it more difficult for emergency vehicles to enter safely. I have never seen a Monroe student park here, I have observed older, men and women sometimes with children park here.

We hope and pray that our neighbor recovers from this brutal crime.
We in this neighborhood try to keep a close watch on strangers here.

New Rochelle Public Employees Dominate Top 20 and Top 100 Municipal Salary Lists for Westchester, Rockland and Putnam

7B6C1AD9-FF8D-4F83-A52D-8F6CDC622199.jpgThe Journal News has another one of their terrific public data projects online today. This time they have compiled a list of the top municipal earners in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties. The list includes 56 communities -- primarily municipal governments but four school districts including New Rochelle.

For readers still not convinced that a lack of oversight and voter apathy has left the pigs free to feed at the public trough with abandon in New Rochelle it will likely not concern them that 30% of the Top 20 earners in the three countries are from New Rochelle -- double the next largest community on the list. Or that more than a quarter of the Top 100 earners are from New Rochelle. Oink! Oink!
