Friday Garbage Collection for South End of New Rochelle Cancelled

This is the City of New Rochelle, with an important message regarding garbage collection scheduled for Friday, February 26th. Due to snow removal operations, garbage collection for the south end has been cancelled. Please pull back from the curb, any garbage or trash put out for collection.

Journal News is reporting that Four teens charged in New Rochelle robbery near library

...a 38-year-old New Rochelle resident, was walking near 1 Library Plaza at 10:20 p.m. Friday when a group of seven to eight boys demanded a backpack he was carrying...The victim was punched in the head by another suspect.

New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson said the recommendations had a lot of support in the business community...

Does this mean a lot of the business community supports the plan or that those in the business community who support the plan support it a lot?

Have the residential towers delivered a lot of foot traffic and money for downtown businesses? Mostly I hear that residents of the towers sleep in New Rochelle but most do their shopping and entertainment in places like Manhattan. What have you heard?

After the teacher's union rejected a proposal that teachers at Central Falls High School, a failing school, get additional training (paid) and work an additional 25 minutes a day (unpaid) to help turn around the school, the Superintendent made a surprise move.

[School Supt. Frances Gallo] Gallo, unlike most officials who just cave in to public sector union demands because a) it's not their money and b) it's easier to give in, took a novel approach. She fired the lot of them.

Not their money? Easier to give in to the unions? Huh?

In a showdown vote the school board...backed the decision to fire the teachers!

Unions responded predictably "This is immoral, illegal, unjust, irresponsible, disgraceful and disrespectful..."

Miss PFFL 1998.jpgA City of New Rochelle spokesperson today told Talk of the Sound that City officials had "no comment" on two controversial "fantasy football" web sites created and published by current and retired officers of the New Rochelle Police Department. The two web sites were featured in a Talk of the Sound Exclusive published last week, New Rochelle Commissioner Turns Blind-Eye to "Gangster Mentality" in Police Department's High-Stakes Fantasy Football.

Spokesperson Kathy Gilwit told Talk of the Sound she could not be sure whether the City Manager or other City officials were aware of the story or the two web sites.
