Four houses of the New Rochelle Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 47 Elk Avenue. The first truck arrived on the scene at 9:46 PM. Smoke could be seen billowing out of the rear of the house on the second floor as the NRFD deployed. Firefighter entered through the front door and used a ladder to ascend to a second story front window. The residents escaped without harm and assembled on the front lawn.

A preliminary report indicates an accidental fire caused by a burning candle. After the fire was brought under control, firefighters removed an arm chair from the house.

image1880278534.jpgA demonstration in the New Rochelle City Hall rotunda drew elected officials from Eastchester, Tuckahoe, Bronxville and New Rochelle who joined together to roundly condemn United Water not just for the proposed rate increase but for not providing services regardless at rate.

Byron Gray, President of Local 273, disclosed publicly for the first time the dangerously low water pressure at New Rochelle fire hydrants. Gray stated that the proposed per hydrant cost will come straight from the Fire Department budget resulting in the loss of 10-12 firefighters and the possible closing of one firehouse.

Sycamore Park Vandal Residing on Ronalds Lane

August 02, 2010 - 15:49

In the past two weeks, two vehicles which were parked on Ronalds Lane in the Sycamore Park area of New Rochelle, have been vandalized for the mere reason of parking on Ronalds Lane. Residence / home owners of Ronalds Lane think that they own the portion of the road in front of there homes and that no one else is allowed to park there. Ronalds Lane is a public street where any one can park their non-commercial vehicle.

There are a number of resident home owners that park “spot holder” vehicles in front of their homes and these vehicles become permanent road fixtures. These home owners park these “spot holders” for week and months without moving them so that other people cannot park their vehicles in front of their homes. This “spot holder tactic is illegal. These same home owners have driveways which they keep empty.

This writer knows that these crimes are being committed by resident home owners of Ronalds Lane, and that these home owners are gutless, selfish, socially challenged, inept, jealous, loathing individuals.

These crimes have been reported to the New Rochelle Police for investigation. If there are any others who have had their vehicles vandalized while parked on Ronalds Lane, report the act to New Rochelle Police Department. These resident home owners must be punished!!!

Patch.com, recently acquired by AOL, is preparing to launch a New Rochelle web site and is currently soliciting prospective advertisers and recruiting freelance writers. Full-disclosure, my daughter works at AOL and I know several of the people involved with Patch.com

Patch bills itself as a "community-specific news and information platform dedicated to providing comprehensive and trusted local coverage for individual towns and communities". They are run out of Manhattan and they hire freelancers to write stories for various towns and then cross-post those stories.

Patch has web sites in nearby towns including http://larchmont.patch.com and http://www.rye.patch.com.

They have an ad up on Craiglist. They are currently looking to hire "freelance reporters/multimedia storytellers with strong news judgment". They want people to cover breaking news; courts and crime; politics and government; business and development; features; the arts; schools; sports and more. They are paying people $50 to $200 or more to "deadline-driven reporters that are adept at online storytelling".
