Just Wondering: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

November 28, 2010 - 21:41

Sometimes I wonder things and I look them up. Today I was watching TV and saw a commercial during the Giants game that made me wonder "Did some real person really create Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or is that just a made up name? If the name is real, who is Reese?

It turns out there really was a Reese and he really did create Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

The Lesson of Fire 43 Bayard in New Rochelle

November 26, 2010 - 17:37

As the rank and file members of the NRFD are asking to see the building permits and electrical inspection reports one must ask the question; who did the work? And do you do work to your house without permits and inspections. I have to believe that if my house caught fire after a renovation and I did not have the proper permits and inspections that I would be in big trouble as I should be. This could have been a terrible loss of life and should be a teachable moment for us all. Just as the city tries to cut manning we must admit that New Rochelle is full of illegal housing, overcrowded housing conditions and many houses and buildings that have been illegally renovated. We need our firefighters more than ever. So If you are one of the people that follow the rules and get permits when needed, be proud. If you don't be afraid because the consequences could be grave (pun intended).

On November 19, New Rochelle native Natalie Gonzalez of the Main Street Boxing Club capped her comeback to the squared circle by seizing the 2010 Metro Boxing title in the 106 lb division. Hudson Park - Save Mondays & Tuesdays for Summer 2011

November 25, 2010 - 16:15

In the proposed 2011 budget, the city has closed Hudson Park on Mondays and Tuesdays to save money. Apparently the park is underutilized and at risk of losing city funding.

On local radio shows, I have heard one councilman looking for ideas. Bob Marrone on WVOX said it might be $1000 a day or week. A city sailing school was mentioned. Some city councilmen are trying to figure out a way to make the park profitable in order to meet the line budget for the two days. It sounds like they are looking for what many businesses call 'alternate revenue streams' or 'ancillary income'.

In an effort to communicate what the public thinks and any ideas that we might have, we are asking here for ideas.
