Bell gordonNew Rochelle City Council Approves Gordon Bell and Gregory Merchant for IDA Board

The City Council of New Rochelle voted unanimously Tuesday to reappoint Gordon P. Bell to the New Rochelle Industrial Development Agency for another 3 year term. Bell has served on the IDA since 2007.

The City Council voted on a party line vote to appoint Gregory A. Merchant to the IDA Board. Merchant's wife Lianne was elected last May to the City School District of New Rochelle Board of Education. The Republicans had put forward attorney John Verni for the IDA.

During the vote City Council Member Richard St. Paul expressed his desire that, in the future, the City Council be given the opportunity to interview candidates for the IDA Board in light of the important impact the IDA has on local taxes. St. Paul also noted that the majority Democrats routinely reject IDA candidates supported by the Republicans as was the case with Verni again on Tuesday.

The Bramson Manifesto - Censorship, Lies and Videotape or, the New Tyranny is Here - Now!

February 21, 2011 - 08:08

manifestoIt was that time again, time for a developer to sit down with city council and explain why they won't deliver any product for another year or so. It's taken 14 months to hear Forest City tell New Rochelle the same old we got nothing. This latest manipulation comes as no surprise to anyone who has followed the saga of Echo Bay. Afterall, Lou Cappelli received 13 or 14 extensions over nearly a decade and you see where that got us. The rhetoric of how the economy is bad, financing is tough etc, has led the developer to scale back the project and divide it into 3 phases. Phase 1 would encompass all of the property that can be secured with little or no cost to the developer (as in city owned property only). Phase 2 and 3 will have no guarantee of ever happening.
