'Luck of the Sound' for Three Main Street Boxers

There is always talk about the luck of the Irish, especially around St. Patrick’s Day. This year nobody told Florida State about that, so we look for alternatives. With three profiles for three finalists, the Main Street Boxing Team must be thinking about the luck of the Talk of the Sound. Natalie Gonzalez, Lindsay Tolpa, and Anthony Pegues all advanced to the finals of their respective divisions in the New York Golden Gloves. They will be competing for titles at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on April 7 and 8, with the exact scheduling still pending.

Redistricting Page Created for City Website Census Data, Valuable Links Featured

Every ten years, New Rochelle receives population demographic results of the most recent Census. City Council is required to redraw local council district boundaries to equalize the district population and ensure fair representation for all the people of New Rochelle.

The City Clerk has posted a redistricting page on the City website to facilitate community engagement in the redistricting process. The page can be accessed directly at The page features redistricting goals and objectives, maps of the current council district boundaries, and the latest Census population demographic data, released March 24. The page will also feature any proposed or draft plans to be released in April.

Suggestions, concerns and/or objectives about the physical and demographic characteristics of New Rochelle’s council districts or recommendations for change or preservation of any aspects of the current district configuration should be directed to the office of the City Clerk. New Rochelle Police Target Violators Who Fail to Stop for Stopped School Buses

As part of a statewide initiative, the New Rochelle Police Department will participate in Operation Safe Stop on Wednesday, March 30 from 7 am to 4 pm. NRPD officers will target violators throughout the city who fail to stop for stopped school buses.

The purpose of this program is to increase motorist awareness of child safety, and to be aware of the seriousness of failing to stop for the stopped school busses when children are embarking and disembarking and crossing in front of the buses.

This is the third year the City has participated in Operation Safe Stop, part of the Governor’s Traffic Safety STEP grant program. STEP grant funding allows local agencies to participate in selected enforcement programs during the year, including speed enforcement, aggressive driver, stop sign violations and failure to stop for stopped school buses.

This year there will be an election for the entire New Rochelle City Council as well as the Mayor of New Rochelle. Councilman Richard St. Paul has been extremely vocal about many issues which will effect the City's future. If he were to run for Mayor and be elected, he would be the City's first Mayor of color. A lawyer, St. Paul was involved in the minority district lawsuit in New Rochelle. His background includes working on the Bush 2004 election campaign. He also served as the Help American Vote Act (HAVA), as its legal director in West Virginiafor the Bush Campaign`and having served in the Naval reserve for eight years. Recently in New Rochelle he led the fight to reopen the New Rochelle train station bathrooms. Westchester Guardian posed these questions.

Westchester Guardian: Why did you think the Council majority should not have supported a plan for redistricting which did not include the support of the residents?

St. Paul: My feeling is that this was another missed opportunity to show the public that we believe that the legislative body of the City
