With three profiles for three finalists, the Main Street Boxing Team must be thinking about the luck of the Talk of the Sound. Natalie Gonzalez, Lindsay Tolpa, and Anthony Pegues all advanced to the finals of their respective divisions in the New York Golden Gloves. Every ten years, New Rochelle receives population demographic results of the most recent Census. City Council is required to redraw local council district boundaries to equalize the district population and ensure fair representation for all the people of New Rochelle.
The City Clerk has posted a redistricting page on the City website to facilitate community engagement in the redistricting process. The page can be accessed directly at www.newrochelleny.com/redistricting. The page features redistricting goals and objectives, maps of the current council district boundaries, and the latest Census population demographic data, released March 24. The page will also feature any proposed or draft plans to be released in April.
Suggestions, concerns and/or objectives about the physical and demographic characteristics of New Rochelle’s council districts or recommendations for change or preservation of any aspects of the current district configuration should be directed to the office of the City Clerk. To submit comments, please email the City Clerk at [email protected] or write to “City Clerk’s Office – Redistricting”, 515 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10801.
“Operation Safe Stop” part of NYS Initiative
As part of a statewide initiative, the New Rochelle Police Department will participate in Operation Safe Stop on Wednesday, March 30 from 7 am to 4 pm. NRPD officers will target violators throughout the city who fail to stop for stopped school buses.
The purpose of this program is to increase motorist awareness of child safety, and to be aware of the seriousness of failing to stop for the stopped school busses when children are embarking and disembarking and crossing in front of the buses.
This is the third year the City has participated in Operation Safe Stop, part of the Governor’s Traffic Safety STEP grant program. STEP grant funding allows local agencies to participate in selected enforcement programs during the year, including speed enforcement, aggressive driver, stop sign violations and failure to stop for stopped school buses.
