New Rochelle Mayor's Radio Show Theme Song Makes "Positive Statement" About Dealing with Gang Violence and Desperation

"In the City", a song written by Barry DeVorzon and Joe Walsh, has served as the title and theme song for New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson's radio show on WVOX since he was appointed to the position in 2006. The Mayor shares the show with City Manager Charles B. Strome and inherited it from his predecessor, current Westchester County Clerk, Timothy Idoni.

For those not familiar with the song, it was written for the soundtrack to the film The Warriors. The song was first recorded by Walsh and released on The Warriors soundtrack album in 1979. Another version recorded by the Eagles was included on their 1979 album The Long Run. The song was covered by rapper Anybody Killa on his debut album with Psychopathic Records, Hatchet Warrior in 2003.

How to Read Talk of the Sound on a New Rochelle School District Computer

September 12, 2011 - 21:52

We have been told that the City School District of New Rochelle has been blocking Talk of the Sound on its computer network for quite a while now. Since we are not in the network we cannot see that so if you have some experience with this let us know. Most readers have figured out how to bypass the system or just use their mobile phone to read this site or access Facebook, Twitter, blogs and other restricted web sites.

For those looking for a simple solution, we have done a little research and recommend this article from About.com:

Unblock Blocked Sites - Ten Ways to Unblock Blocked Sites

Turns out there are many services out there that allow users to bypass blocks although they seem to shut down from time to time. So, we are putting up this post and will update whenever we hear from a reader that the recommended service is no longer available or has somehow been blocked.

The #1 recommended option for now is:

Request for Help: Access to a High-Speed, Sheet Fed, Office Quality Scanner for 1 or 2 Days

September 12, 2011 - 18:44

I am looking for a reader who can provide access to a scanner so I can sheet-feed packages of documents like school district budgets, resolutions and loads of other documents that I want to scan and OCR, then make available on Talk of the Sound as searchable documents.

What I am looking for is access large machine where I can get access to it when I will be able to work uninterrupted for several hours -- perhaps on a holiday or weekend. I want to be able to do double-side and output as PDF (preferably).

As there is no paper or ink involved it would not cost anything for me to make the scans.

If you can hook me with such a scanner please contact me at 914-500-8386 or email at robertcox AT newrochelletalk DOT com.

Thanks

Restoring the Most Beautiful Church in Westchester

September 12, 2011 - 16:59

Lightning may never strike the same place twice but the parishioners of Blessed Sacrament may feel as devastated as if it had. In the space of a few short years, Blessed Sacrament Church had major repair work: first on the church steeple, and now to redo the front walls. It was only a few years ago that the steeple of the church had to be repaired because if was in "imminent danger of collapse" Parishioners contributed to help finance the nearly half million dollars that were needed to repair this tall and stately steeple that contributed greatly to the architectural beauty of this church. But now only a few years later more work is needed to repair the cracks in the walls of the church facade on Centre Avenue. These cracks caused rain and snow leaks in the church whenever those weather conditions were present.
