New Rochelle Cuts Fire Department Staffing Beginning Thursday To Save Less Than 3 Cents per Day per Resident

The City of New Rochelle will slash its emergency responder protections this Thursday, November 17), cutting its minimum on duty firefighting contingent to 24 firefighters. Additionally one of the department’s three ladder companies , which conduct search, rescue and recovery operations and venting heat, will be taken out of service.

Closing Ladder-12, which is based at the Webster Avenue firehouse, a highly populated downtown neighborhood will diminish by one-third the number of ladder companies able to respond to emergencies. Ladder companies are especially important in a city like New Rochelle which has scores of multi-story and high rise buildings.

New Rochelle Student Found Dead at Home in Yonkers, Salesian High School Senior Mourned

Members of the Salesian High School community are reeling this morning from the death of a student last night.

Andy Feliz, a senior at Salesian High School, was found by his mother last night when she returned to the family home in Yonkers. The cause of death has not been officially determined but Feliz is believed to have died from natural causes. The school learned of the unexpected death by the boy's mother.

Salesian Seniors were informed of the death of their classmate at a special mass held at the school chapel.

Feliz was known as a devout Catholic. He was the organizer of an upcoming spiritual retreat for students next week.

Feliz's passing is the second tragic death of a Salesian student in two years. In 2009, Nicholas Nespolini, then a junior at Salesian, died in his sleep at his home in the Bronx.

Iona College Finalizes Report on Irregularities in Student Performance Data

IonaCollegeLogoIona College is coming clean in the wake of the firing of former Provost Warren Rosenberg who inaccurately reported data on student performance to outside agencies. The college issued a statement last week as a follow up to previous statements made in August and September.

New Rochelle, NY – November 8, 2011 —Iona College recently completed an internal investigation by outside legal counsel, with assistance from an independent auditing firm, into irregularities in student performance data reported to external agencies. The audit confirmed that inaccurate data—related to incoming freshman acceptance rates, SAT scores, graduation rates, and alumni who give annually—was reported to external agencies. Reported SAT scores for incoming freshmen were overstated on average 6.5% over actual scores. Lambert Licenses 455Reza Kolahifar, the Assistant to the Superintendent for Human Resources, acknowledged today that at the time of her hire in 2004 during the time of her employment from 2007 until 2011 there was no valid administrative license on file with the New York State Education Department for Patricia Lambert, the Barnard Elementary School principal. The report came in the wake over the outcry over the news that Trinity Elementary School Principal Nadine Pacheco was forced to resign last month after it came to light that she has never had a valid administrative license since first being hired by the New Rochelle Board of Education in 2007. Talk of the Sound has been the first to report the various licensing issues of school administrators in New Rochelle.

The 48th Annual Valenti New Rochelle Thanksgiving Parade is proudly presented by the Chamber of Commerce of New Rochelle and the City of New Rochelle.

The event will kick off at 10 am this Saturday November 19th from the corner of North Avenue and Eastchester Road and proceed south on North Avenue to Main Street; then turn right onto Main Street to the Maple Avenue parking lot.

Nightmare on Stephenson Boulevard House Up For Sale, Patrick Hickey Leaving Town Three Months After Talk of the Sound Exposé Reveals Years of Tormenting Innocent Neighbor

Patrick Hickey, the primary owner of the house spent years orchestrating a campaign to drive his next door neighbor out of her house. Now, just three months after the final installment of a Talk of the Sound series exposing Hickey's relentless harassment of Suzanne Ribando, it is Hickey who has been driven out of his house, and the City of New Rochelle. Hickey is looking to move to Mamaroneck, sources say.

Suzanne Ribondo, who had previously moved back into her family home to care for her ailing father, was mercilessly hounded by Hickey, Tracey Hickey, his wife, and their two children as well as members of the New Rochelle Police Department. Hickey, who made a series of false police reports intended to drive Ribando from her home, is now facing a civil lawsuit.
