Christmas 2011: Hope for a Better World

Christmas 2011:  Hope for a Better World  by Peggy Godfrey

     This year is ending on a high note as many troops are returning from abroad to their families in time for the holidays and Christmas. Their unselfish service to our country sets a standard for all of us during this season of good will toward all men.   During World War I on Christmas 1914 eve and day, many German and British soldiers actually walked across their trenches to sing Christmas carols and exchange holiday greetings.  These troops demonstrated the true spirit of Christmas which is a model for all of us during the coming year.

Media Feeding Frenzy on Phony General Story Erupts as Fermijon Marrero Cracks, Admits Lies But Adds More

Fermijon Marrero's pile of lies has come crashing down around him as media outlets from around the New York area have picked up the story after Talk of the Sound reported that the man honored as Grand Marshall of the 2011 Memorial Day Parade was not a Brigadier General in the U.S. Army or Vietnam POW. In fact, Marrero is an outright fraud, discharged from the Army in 1976 as a private after 9 months of service. He never saw combat or served overseas, spending his entire time in the service stationed as bases in the United States Talk of the Sound's based its reporting on information published on John Lilyea's This Ain't Hell Blog and research done by Mary and Chuck Schantag of the POW Network site after the Daily New Rochelle reported that Marrero claimed to have been a Vietnam POW.

God comforts people with gifts.

Like the metaphors in Isaiah

with the “The Rose of Sharon”: Kingdom glory;

beauty on hills, splendor; support for

miracle reversals from weakness to strength and blindness to sight;

the ability to recognize joy, good people, happiness and growth.

You are a gift and you are my people as far back as

I have memory in New Rochelle. As far back as Rev. Cructhfield

crying in the midst of sermon and the Sweet Hours

Of Prayers at Shiloh sang right through -- the blue and speckled stained glass.

I recall your dad belting-out, punctuated hymns that stirred the

sisters and the brothers too and also made your momma proud.

I remember you as J.V.’s sister and then “our’s too” in kind.

Each laughing moment with you took the relationship to new bonds and you always

You know that our family and particularly a Flowers

Set the Points on the Compass of Hearts and Courage

in the neighborhood, in Pop Warner football; working for the city;

across the streets of New Rochelle; coming out of church;

and of course showing up with City Pride on the NRHS bleachers.

One of you was always there and each of you had your own way and “effect”.

I think of the, un-flinching love for all of us and remember Psalms 139:7-10 in the human condition. “Whither shall I go from Thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from Thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, Thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, Thou art there.  If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall Thy hand lead me, and Thy right hand shall hold me.”

But you Ernie, had those eyes and fewer words.

What does the 2012 budget mean for you?

 I got to wondering about this yesterday and this is what NRs 2012 budget means to me.

My home is assessed at $17,000 so the city portion of my property taxes will be $3,154.01 (multiply the assessment by the new tax rate off $185.53 and then divide by 1,000 because the tax rate is per $1,000 of assessment) then add on the garbage tax of $223.00 to bring my total tax bill to $3,357.01.  Now in comparison, I paid $3,042.68 last January.  To calculate the percentage increase over last year, take the difference ($314.33) and divide it by the amount of tax paid last year or 10.3307%.

This example is for properties assessed at $17,000 so if your property is assessed lower; your tax % increase will be higher because the garbage tax is fixed.  Likewise, if your assessment is higher than $17,000 the percentage increase will be lower, also because the garbage tax is fixed.

Let’s all give a big thanks Noam & Chuck for the gifts they’re taking from under everyone’s tree this year.
