Driver of Red Truck Who Ran Over Bronx Man Surrenders to New Rochelle Police

Martin Oliveros, 24, of New Rochelle, NY has been charged with Assault in the First Degree.

Oliveros was wanted by police after incident Saturday morning in which a Bronx man was dragged under the wheel of his truck as Oliveros sped away from the scene of a traffic colission at the intersection of North Avenue and Quaker Ridge Road.

The victim was taken to Montefiore New Rochelle hospital and later transfered to the traumu unit at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx where he remains in critical condition.

A long time resident of New Rochelle since 1957, after living in Poland, Switzerland and Israel post WWII, Mrs. Ferstenberg spent some years working as a nursery school teacher at Beth El Synagogue and was extremely active in a number of charitable organizations, including Women's American Organization for Rehabilitation Through Training (ORT), of which she was a past President of the Shore Chapter and Woman of the Year in 1977. She was active in the Sisterhood, Hadassah, Book Club and Yiddish Club at Beth El and was an avid synagogue member.

NEW YORK – Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today issued a consumer alert warning both consumers and businesses about price gouging during major weather events. The National Weather Service has forecast a crippling and potentially historic blizzard in the greater New York City metropolitan area during the next 36 hours. Snow accumulation is expected to reach as many as 2 feet, with locally higher amounts possible, while wind gusts may exceed 50 mph. Heavy snowfall is anticipated in New York City, Long Island, Hudson Valley, and the Capital region.

Tuftonboro, NH -- Dr. James Frederick Culleton, 96 of Chase Point Rd., Tuftonboro died Jan. 23 at Forestview Manor in Meredith, NH. 

Born April 6, 1918 in Sewickly, PA son of the late James and Jesse (Scragg) Culleton he has lived in Tuftonboro since 1983 after summering there since 1959 previously living in Pelham, NY. and Palm Beach Gardens, FL. 

Dr. Culleton served his country with the United States Army during WWII.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Tons of snow is being kept warm and dry inside a newly constructed Salt Dome at the New Rochelle DPW Yard on East Main Street. Winter Storm Juno represents the first real test of the benefit of the new salt dome.

The rock salt was soft to the touch. It was not clumped together or frozen into chunks, more like coarse sand.

Martinez connected on 12 of her 24 attempts from the field, including four from behind the arc. As a team, the Gaels knocked down 10 three-pointers. The nation's active scoring leader, Martinez moved into 99th all-time on the NCAA Division I scoring list with 2,343 points, and now sits 125 points shy of breaking the MAAC scoring record of 2,467 points.

Junior forward Joy Adams finished three assists shy of a triple-double with 16 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists. Adams went 7-for12 from the field, and filled out the stat sheet with three blocks and two steals.
