NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle President Judith Huntington hosted a reception in the College's historic Castle Parlors on Friday, February 20, honoring the Blue Angels volleyball team that won the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) regular season and tournament championships this fall.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College women's water polo team posted a 2-1 mark over three games held at a pair of venues. The Gaels opened the day with a pair of victories at the Villanova Invitational, before suffering a 22-10 setback to No. 19 Hartwick at Marist College.

With nine players hitting the back of the net, the Gaels cruised to their third win of the weekend at the Villanova Invitational with a 15-6 victory over Mercyhurst in the first game of the day.

Aramark is the multi-billion dollar services company that runs the Buildings & Grounds department in the City School District of New Rochelle. On Monday, a regular work day for the Grounds Maintenance staff but a snow day for teachers, staff and students, workers were told to report at the normal time of 7 a.m. Many of the workers are upset because after a great deal of fraud and abuse related to snow days overtime was exposed by Anna Giordano last year, Interim Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Korostoff ordered overtime to be curtailed.

Registration for the 2015 New Rochelle Summer Camps is underway.

Jefferson Camp (For children who have completed Kindergarten through 5th grade): $580 (before May 22nd) $630 (after May 22nd) $300 down payment due upon registration. Balance due June 5th at 4:00pm.

Ward Camp (For children who have completed Kindergarten through 5th grade): $600 (before May 22nd) $650 (after May 22nd) $400 down payment due upon registration. Balance due June 5th. at 4:00pm.

New Rochelle Council Member Calls for Committee to Improve Community Policing

Council Member Jared Rice is calling for the creation of a committee be created to make recommendations to the City Council regarding ways to improve community policing in New Rochelle. His propsal is on the agenda for today's City Council meeting. Rice provided a copy of his memo to Talk of the Sound which reads as follows:

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Seth R. Goldstein, raised in New Rochelle and a graduate of New Rochelle High School, was profiled by The New York Times on Friday.

Goldstein’s work is currently on exhibit at The American Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.

After graduating from New Rochelle High School he went on to M.I.T. and then onto a career in biomedical engineering at the National Institutes of Health.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) announced their women’s basketball end of season awards Sunday, and senior forward Jah-Leah Ellis (Harlem, NY/Hun School of Princeton) was named the HVIAC Player of the Year, while first-year head coach Joan Sanchez was named HVIAC Co-Coach of the Year, with all voting conducted by the conferences head coaches.  Additionally, senior guard Alyssa Pechin (Yonkers, NY/Our Lady of Victory) and Ellis were selected to the HVIAC All-Conference team.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino announced that Vito Pinto, the director of the county's Veterans Service Agency and the Office of STOP-DWI and Drug Prevention, will be stepping down at the end of March. A former Democrat county legislator, councilman (Eastchester) and village trustee (Tuckahoe), Pinto served 27 years in elected office prior to being appointed by Astorino in 2010 to lead the county's efforts to assist veterans.
