High School And College Students Sought For The First Westchester Smart Mobile App Development Bowl

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- County Executive Robert P. Astorino is looking for the best young technologists to compete in the first Westchester Smart Mobile App Development Bowl. The event is being sponsored by Westchester County, Pace University’s Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems, and the David and Minnie Berk Foundation.

“There is no limit on the creativity that students can apply to the apps,” said Astorino. “This is a chance for students to showcase their talents.”

Florence M. Zaffino, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died on January 31, 2015. She was 101.

Florence was born on February 24, 1913 in New Rochelle to the late Leonardo and Antoinette (Marconi) Creaturo.

She was a member of the New Rochelle Women's Club, and several Bridge Clubs. She spent many enjoyable years at the Ludington Adult Day Care Center with their devoted staff and her companions. She loved spending time with her large family, neighbors and friends.

Fire Guts Downtown Apartment in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- On Satuday, The New Rochelle Fire Department responded to reports of smoke on the top floor of the apartment building at 77 Centre Avenue in downtown New Rochelle, NY.

Residents self-evacuated and there were no reports of injuries.

Firefighters responded quickly and the fire was soon knocked down.

Traffic on Main Street and Huguenot Street near Centre Avenue was briefly closed to traffic.

An apartment on the top floor of the building appears to be gutted.

This year’s brochure highlights African American inventors and innovators who changed the food industry. This marks the 23rd year the grocer has published its Profiles in Excellence brochures.

Iona Women's Basketball Falls To Marist, 63-58

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College women's basketball team fell to 11-10 on the season, and 8-4 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, with a 63-58 setback to Marist Saturday afternoon at the Hynes Athletics Center.

In a contest that included nine ties and 11 lead changes, the Red Foxes use a 13-7 run over the final 6:16 to pick up the victory in a matchup of the two teams that shared last season's MAAC Regular Season Championship.
