Iona Women's Lacrosse Rolls In Season Opener, 15-5

FAIRFIELD, CT - The Iona College lacrosse team kicked off the 2015 season in spectacular fashion with a 15-5 rout of Sacred Heart Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Erin Pugh, senior Meghan Testoni and freshman Pamela Giordano led the way with four points apiece, as Pugh scored a game-high four goals in the contest.

In her first collegiate game, Giordano scored three goals and added one assist while junior Mary Kate McCormick recorded three goals as well. Testoni scored two goals, along with two assists while senior Casey Palmer handed out two assists.

ALBANY, NY -- In a rematch of last season's conference championship, The College of New Rochelle's repeat bid came up short, dropping a 69-65 decision to St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn in the semifinals of the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Tournament Championships, held at Albany College of Pharmacy's Albert M. White Gymnasium.

NEW YORK – Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and New York City Corporation Counsel Zachary W. Carter today announced the filing of a multimillion-dollar lawsuit alleging that United Parcel Service, Inc. unlawfully shipped over 136 million contraband cigarettes – or nearly 700,000 untaxed cartons— across New York State in violation of federal and state laws. The lawsuit was jointly filed in federal court in Manhattan by the State of New York and City of New York.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College men's basketball team earned its ninth straight win overall and fifth straight on the road including a perfect 4-0 mark on its season-long trip away from home with a 72-68 win at Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at McCann Arena. Iona's magic number is down to one to clinch the No. 1 seed and at least a share of the MAAC regular season championship for the second straight season.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Iona College women's basketball senior guard Damika Martinez (Meriden, CT) became the all-time leading scorer in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference history in a 59-54 loss to Marist Friday evening at the McCann Center.  Entering the game just two points shy of the all-time mark, Martinez quickly established the new bench mark with a three-pointer with 18:11 remaining in the first half, that gave the Gaels a 5-3 edge.

Monroe Mustangs Excel at Millrose Games

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe Mustangs men and women relay teams ran their way to victory this past weekend, taking home more medals at the NYRR Millrose Games.

Held at the New Balance Track and Field Center at Manhattan's Armory, the games are now in their 108th year and are often heralded as the world's longest-running and most prestigious indoor track and field event.

Both of Monroe's relay teams put on a stellar performance. As demonstrated time and time again, hard work paid off: the Mustangs men clinched gold in the 4x400m, for the second time.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- One minute, Charlotte Grady, widow of New Rochelle Firefighter Marty Grady, was enjoying a cruise. The next, she was paralyzed, having tripped falling face-first into a wall. To make matters worse, after being flown to Florida, there is no insurance money left for the air ambulance required to transport her home.

When we heard that one of our own was in need, it didn't matter that he retired 19 years ago, passed away months after, and most members had never met him, we did our job as we always do - to make the best out of a terrible situation.

Ngozi Okonkwo has qualified as Finalist in the 2015 National Achievement Scholarship Program!  These three students are now eligible for merit scholarship awards.
