Iona Women Take Sixth In 2015 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships

BUFFALO, NY -- The Iona College women's swimming and diving team concluded the 2015 MAAC Championships Saturday evening. After four days of competing, the Gaels placed sixth, totaling 376 points.

The 400 yard freestyle saw freshman Elizabeth Kaczmarek, juniors Mary Ellen Mangione and Leigh Musselman, and sophmore Natalie Bowman take fourth in the contest, touching at 3:32.89.

Bowman competed in the 100 free, taking fourth at 52.68. Following behind was Kaczmarek in thirteenth, finishing at 54.52.

Iona MBB Grits Out 60-57 Win At Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, CT -- The Iona College men's basketball team gritted out its eighth straight victory and fourth straight on the road in a 60-57 win over Quinnipiac at TD Bank Sports Center. Freshman Schadrac Casimir broke a 55-55 tie with 41.8 seconds left, converting a three-point play with an underhand scoop shot and the ensuing free throw and the Gaels overcame its lowest shooting effort in five seasons under head coach Tim Cluess in the win.

Woman Unhappy with Service, Back Car into Front Doors of New Rochelle Pizza Hut

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A woman reportedly upset with the service at the Pizza Hut restaurant located along Echo Avenue backed her Volkswagen Jetta into the front doors before driving off. The windows were cracked and the doors knocked off their hinges.

The police were called to the scene shortly after 4:30 p.m. Police found the car a short time later. They then located the woman and arrested her.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona Lacrosse head coach Michelle Mason has announced the first ever Gaels Team Challenge. During its march to a 2015 MAAC playoff berth, the team will use the sixty days leading up to the first round of the 2015 MAAC Championships to ask alumni, family and friends of the Iona women’s lacrosse program to help sell sixty team tee signs for 2015 Goal Club Golf Outing on Monday, June 1st at $200 apiece.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College baseball team hosted its inaugural First Pitch Dinner Tuesday evening at the Hynes Athletics Center.  New York Yankee legend Mariano Rivera was the guest of honor and keynote speaker.

“It was a great night for Iona baseball,” said head coach Pat Carey, “We are incredibly grateful to Mr. Rivera, and all of the alumni and friends of the program that supported this event.”

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) announced its 2014 Fall All-Academic Team recently, and nine student-athletes from The College of New Rochelle were named HVIAC All-Academic.

 The nine student-athletes honored represent the most for CNR for the Fall Season and equals Winter/Spring 2011 for the most recognition.

BROOKLYN, NY -– In their final meet of the season, The College of New Rochelle Blue Angels dropped a 42-30 decision to St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn Monday night. 

Angela Avalos was one of two individual event winners for CNR, taking home first place points in the 100 Back with a time of 1:53.27.  Barrett Pritchard touched first in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:36.29 to secure the other first place finish for the Blue Angels.

JERSEY CITY, NJ -- Iona College women's basketball senior guard Damika Martinezscored a game-high 25 points, including 17 in the second half, as the Iona College women's basketball team came from behind for a 67-65 victory over Saint Peter's Thursday evening at the Yanitelli Center in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.
