Iona Softball Sweeps Niagara In MAAC Opener

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College softball team began Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action with a two game sweep of Niagara Saturday afternoon at Donald E. Walsh Field.

In the opener, the Gaels rode the arm of redshirt sophomore Christine Costello, who threw a two-hit shuout in a 2-0 victory. In the second game, Iona plated the winning runs of a 6-4 win in the ninth inning when sophomore Kristen Turner connected on a two-run walk off homer.

LOS GATOS, CA — Netflix today added Anne Sweeney, recently Co-chair Disney Media Networks and President Disney-ABC Television at the Walt Disney Company to its board, bringing the total number of directors to nine and expanding the breadth of its global and entertainment experience.

Major Flooding at Maple Center as Water Pipes Burst Leaving Seniors without Heat, Running Water or Elevators

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Maple Center senior housing at 35 Maple Avenue in New Rochelle has been without heat and running water since the early hours of Monday morning after a water pipe inside the building ruptured filling the basement with water.

The boiler room was flooded, knocking out heat and hot water. Cold running water was just restored.

The water filled the elevator shafts and spilled over into the lobby of the 109-unit apartment building which houses an estimated 150 tenants.

New Rochelle Fire Causes Evacuation of Overcrowded House

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle firefighters responding to a fire in the basement of a house at 61 Clinton Avenue found an overcrowding situation in the house.

The fire was in the basement and got into the walls but was quickly knocked down by the fire department.

FIre officials remained on scene, in control of the location, until a New Rochelle building official arrived on scene.

One woman on oxygen support was among those who self-evacuated from the house.

No flames or smoke was visible from the street.

There were no reported injuries.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY- Iona College men's basketball junior guard A.J. English and senior forward David Laury were named 2015 Lou Henson All-America, finalists for the Lou Henson Award, as well as being named NABC Division I All District First Team. English and Laury are the only teammates on the list for the Lou Henson Award out of the 31 finalists named.

The Lou Henson Award is presented annually by CollegeInsider.com to the Mid-Major player in division I college basketball. The finalists for the award also represent the Lou Henson All-America team.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College lacrosse team fell to 0-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a 10-7 setback at the hands of Niagara Saturday afternoon at Mazzella Field. Ahead 5-2 at intermission, the Gaels were outscored 8-2 in the second half by the Purple Eagles.

Iona was led by sophomore Erin Pugh's three goals and one assist, while junior Mary Kate McCormick found the back of the net two times. In net, senior Blaire Nathanson made six saves.

PELHAM, NY -- From April 17th to April 26th, The Picture House Regional Film Center will present New York International Children’s Film Festival: Westchester bringing the best new films from around the world for ages 3 through 18 to Westchester, the Bronx, and Connecticut for the very first time. The event takes place just one month after the close of New York International Children’s Film Festival 2015, which ran from February 27th through March 22nd at theaters throughout Manhattan.
