Bi-Parisan Support for New Rochelle YMCA Fundraiser

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Congressman Eliot Engel, New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson, State Senator George Latimer, Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, Assemblyman Steve Otis, Westchester County Legislators Jim Maisano, New Rochelle Council Members Al Tarantino, Jared Rice and Shari Rackiman and New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bob Marrone were among the community leaders and residents all came out Thursday night, March 26 for a fundraiser to save the New Rochelle YMCA Pool. The roof of the pool is currently in disrepair and in desperate need of renovating.

Astorino: What Makes Westchester Smart?

As part of the 2015 Westchester Smart campaign, a series of initiatives launched in January to promote economic growth and more responsive government, County Executive Robert P. Astorino wants to hear what residents think makes Westchester smart.


"Our goal with this campaign is to position Westchester for the future," Astorino said. "We need to make smart decisions now so that we can grow our vibrant and diverse county for years to come. WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today announced the appointment of Ron Tocci, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, as the county's new Director of the Veterans Service Agency. Tocci, a veteran and former Democratic Assemblyman has a long history of service and advocacy for veterans and takes over for Vito Pinto who steps down from the post on March 31.

Pelham, NY -- The reunion committee for Saint Catharine's Grammar School (Pelham, NY) is currently trying to locate a former classmate for an upcoming reunion for the Class of '66. They thought perhaps Talk of the Sound readers might be able to help.

The classmate is Mary Jane Wilkins, now 62 years old and the daughter of Artie Wilkins, a former Iona basketball coach from 1947-1967.

Wilkins coached the freshman college squad and possibly worked some years as the Iona Prep coach. He passed away in 1967 and was inducted into Iona's Hall of Fame in 1986.

I am proud to announce that the City of New Rochelle and the City School District of New Rochelle have entered into a historic partnership designed to eliminate opportunity gaps, barriers, and challenges facing youth in our community, namely boys and young men of color.  At the March 17th, 2015 council legislative meeting, an ordinance was unanimously passed to retain the services of a consultant to assist New Rochelle in creating an action plan for the “My Brother’s Keeper Community Challenge”.
