Iona Softball Stopped at Fordham, 8-4

BRONX, NY - The Iona College softball team dropped an 8-4 decision to Fordham Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Bahosy Field.

Sophomore Kristen Turner collected two hits and drove in two runs while redshirt sophomore Christine Costello drove in the other two runs for the Gaels.

After loading the bases in the second inning without scoring a run, the Rams plated two runs in the bottom of the third on a home run by Lindsay Mayer. In the fourth inning, Fordham took a 3-0 advantage on a solo shot by Rachel Gillen.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A series of explosions rocked downtown New Rochelle during this morning's rush hour.

A fire in a Con Ed electrical vault shortly after 8 a.m. caused an explosion that sent flames shooting up into the street directly in front of New Rochelle Fire House 1 in downtown New Rochelle. More than hour later there was a second manhole explosion. There was a third explosion at the same location as the second at about 10:30 a.m.

The first manhole explosion near 44 Harrison Street sent firefighters scrambling to find the source of the loud blast.

Armed Man Points Rifle at Drivers on Potter Avenue in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A man with a rifle approached drivers of two vehicles on Potter Avenue near the Marshall's Department Store in New Rochelle shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Witnesses told police the man aimed the gun at one driver, then the next before breaking off and walking down Potter Avenue towards Palmer Avenue.

Police put out a BOLO for a Male/Black, Dark Clothing.

City School District Of New Rochelle Offers Separation Incentive Plan To Union Members

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A Separation Incentive Plan has been developed by agreement between the City School District of New Rochelle and the New Rochelle Federation of United School Employees (“the F.U.S.E”). 

The purpose of the Plan is to achieve mutual benefits for the School District and for long-term employees by offering an economic incentive for such employees to separate from service earlier than they might otherwise have done so. Employees who do so will receive a cash payment and/or an enhanced benefits package.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The musical ensemble, Soundview, will present a concert entitled “Jazz Meets Classical” on Sunday, April 19, at 3:00 pm, in the Ossie Davis Theater of the New Rochelle Public Library. The concert is made possible by the Lillian Robbins and Rick Englander Memorial Fund. A donation of $2.00 is suggested at the door.

 

Mount Vernon Man Who Led Police on Manhunt Through New Rochelle Pleads Guilty to Assault Of A Police Officer

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Leroi Bouche, 28, of 42 Sheridan Avenue, Mount Vernon, New York pled guilty today to one count of Attempted Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, a class “C” Felony.

On June 6, 2014, at approximately 7:15 a.m. at the rear parking lot of 630 East Lincoln Avenue, in Mount Vernon, the defendant drove a motor vehicle at a high rate of speed at a Yonkers police detective who along with other members of WDANI – Westchester District Attorney’s Narcotics Initiative were attempting to effect a car stop.

WEST POINT, NY - The Iona College softball team dropped a 7-6 non-conference matchup to Army Tuesday afternoon at Army Softball Complex. After knotting the game in the top of the seventh inning, the Black Knights plated the winning run in the bottom of the frame.

Redshirt sophomore Christine Costello recorded three hits in the game, driving in a run and scoring once. Sophomores Ashlyn Morris, Kristen Turner and Katie Newton each recorded multi-hit efforts. Junior Sarah Schutz and freshman Tori Danner each connected for home runs in the game.
