Iona Softball Splits Final Doubleheader Of CSUN Tournament

NORTHRIDGE, CA - The Iona Gaels softball team earned a split in their double header finale at the CSUN Tournament by defeating Buffalo 6-4, and then falling to Colorado State 10-2. With the split, the Gaels move their record to 2-9 on the young season.

In the opener, senior Brianna Schauer collected two hits and drove in four with a first inning grand slam, that pushed Iona ahead after Buffalo scored twice in the top of the frame. Senior Allison Hand delivered a 3-4 effort, including a solo home run to left field in a two run second inning for the Maroon & Gold.

SPARTANBURG, SC- The Iona College baseball team dropped the second doubleheader of the weekend at Wofford, falling 7-0 in the first game and 13-3 in the night cap.

In game one, junior Zach Brown lead the way with a 2-for-3 afternoon, with two singles. The Gaels had five hits in the game, with junior Carmine Palummo, sophomore Kyle DiVico, and junior Vinny DeMaria recording the other three.

On the bump, graduate Eddie Macaluso took the loss, tossing 5.0 innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs while striking out six. His earned run average on the season now stands at 3.68.

I made a FOIL request today and either they are produce the records or acknowledge they have no records. In either case, I will then proceed on the first of many scams involving Zonzini and Gallagher.

ALBANY, NY -- The New York State Police will initiate special law enforcement efforts during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend to keep drunk drivers off the roadways and alcohol out of the hands of minors. Last year's effort resulted in 184 arrests for DWI and more than 11,000 tickets issued for traffic and other violations. This year's effort will be activated today, March 13, 2015 and run through Tuesday, March 17, 2015.

Iona Lacrosse Falls to University of Albany

ALBANY, NY - The Iona College lacrosse team fell to UAlbany 19-5 Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.

Junior Anna Kelly and sophomore Erin Pugh scored two goals each, while senior Meghan Testoni found the net once. Junior Mary Kate McCormick tallied one assist, her 16th of the season in the game. In goal, senior Blaire Nathanson made 11 stops.

The Great Danes came out and took control of the contest with the game's first eight goals. Pugh's first tally cut the UAlbany run before the host team ended the first half on a 3-1 run.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's basketball team makes its fifth straight postseason appearance in five seasons under head coach Tim Cluess when it takes on the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday (Mar. 17) in the first round of the 2015 National Invitation Tournament. The No. 6 Gaels (26-8) face the No. 3 and Atlantic 10 semifinalists Rams at the Ryan Center in Kingston, Rhode Island at 7:00 pm on ESPNU.

Frank J. "Goo Goo" D'Attilo, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died on March 12, 2015. He was 53.

Frank was born on December 8, 1961 in New Rochelle to the late Frank and Mary (Mulligan) D'Attilo.

Frank worked as a warehouse manager for Smith Party Rental in Port Chester and prior to that he worked at Westside Party and Tent Rentals in Mt. Vernon.

Violent Brawl at Jamaican Restaurant in New Rochelle Leaves 1 Seriously Injured

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Mangoville was the scene of a violent brawl early Saturday morning, police said. The fight which involved more than ten people broke out about 2 a.m.

The Mangoville Soul Caribbean Restaurant, a popular hangout for Monroe College students, is located in a shopping center at 134 North Avenue.

When a security guard attempted to intervene in the altercation, he was struck in the face with a glass bottle. He suffered lacerations to his left eye and was taken to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.
