Iona Softball Stopped At St. John's, 4-1

QUEENS, NY - The Iona College softball team fell to St. John's 4-1 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Red Storm Field.

Senior CF Allison Hand and sophomore LF Ashlyn Morris has two hits apiece, with Hand adding the team's lone RBI on a third inning single.

With the game knotted at one, St. John's delivered the decisive blow in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Brittany Garcia connected on a three run homer to break the tie.

Iona Rowing Hosts 52nd Spring Metropolitan Championships at Glen Island Park on Saturday

NEW ROCHELLE, NY- The Iona College men’s and women’s rowing team will host ten institutions in the 52nd Metropolitan Intercollegiate Rowing Association Spring Regatta, including Geneseo, Stony Brook, Manhattan, Sacred Heart, Robert Morris, Hofstra, Stevens, Sarah Lawrence, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Starting at 9 am, Saturday Apr. 18, the coaches and coxswains will meet at the castle of Glen Island Park, where the teams will be competing.

Con Edison Reports Customers Saving Money with Rooftop Solar Arrays

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Rooftop solar arrays are helping more than 4,700 Con Edison customers lower their energy bills and protect the environment. 

The company has encouraged its customers to consider whether solar energy is right for them and customers have responded by more than tripling the amount of solar production in New York City and Westchester County in just over two years.

Iona College Students Raise Money for American Cancer Society

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Iona College students will participate in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life fundraising event on Saturday, April 18th from 5 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday morning.

Students have already raised $39,000.

Community participants welcome to join between 5 p.m. and midnight.

Relay For Life of Iona College will take place in the Hynes East Gym on the campus of Iona College at 715 North Ave, New Rochelle, NY.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Steve Horton is a smart guy. He is well-educated, an effective manager of public meetings and has access to the legal brainpower of NRMHA Counsel Ira Goldenberg.

So how is that Horton is so tone-deaf when it comes to public accountability?

As a heuristic, if a public official is not open about open meetings and not free with freedom of information requests then they have something to hide. So, what does Steve Horton have to hide?

Iona Golf, Kramarski Capture Monmouth Invitational Championships

DEAL, NJ - Led by an individual first place finish by freshman Kevin Kramarski, the Iona College golf team captured the team title at the Monmouth Invitational Thursday at Deal Country Club. Featuring five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference squads, the Gaels shot a team total of 296 (+12), two shots ahead of Saint Peter's.

Kramarski finished the day with an even par 71, one shot better than Colin Buckley of the host Hawks.  Senior Evan DeLuca was one of three players tied for fifth with a three-over 74, while sophomore Brian Fitzpatrick tied for eighth with a four-over 75.

CNR Softball Falls to Briarcliffe College

PATCHOGUE, NY – In a double header played at Briarcliffe College, the host Bulldogs swept The College of New Rochelle in non-conference play.

In the opener, Briarcliffe jumped out to an early, 10-0, lead, and did not allow the Blue Angel offense to get untracked, allowing just one base runner over the five inning game.  Bulldog starting pitcher Heidi Gomez faced one over the minimum while striking out 13.  Rita Saad was the lone CNR batter to reach base, as she drew a walk with one out in the top of the fifth.
