Iona Prep Track Team Brings Back Medals from West Coast Invitational Meet

SAN DIEGO, CA — Member of the Iona Prep Track Team participated in the Mt. Carmel Invitational in San Diego, CA last week.

18 members of the team made the trip. The team took home two first-place finishes and six medals.

“This was arguably the best trip his team has ever taken,” said Iona Prep Head Coach Jan Mitchell.

City Hiring for Innovative New Ro Pops Program

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City of New Rochelle is hiring a consultant to establish, manage and operate outdoor “pop-up” facilities at one or two, centrally located public spaces in downtown New Rochelle, Memorial Plaza and Anderson Street Plaza. The public spaces have been provisionally named “New Ro’s Pops”.

The announcement comes on the heals of a recent spate of incidents involving roving bands of teens assaulting and robbing pedestrians in the downtown area.

Iona's Casimir Named Freshman All-America, Finalist For Kyle Macy Award

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --  Iona College men's basketball freshman Schadrac Casimir was named a 2015 Kyle Macy Freshman All-America and a finalist for the Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year by CollegeInsider.com, it was announced this morning. Casimir is one of 21 rookies and one of just three from a mid-major conference selected as Freshman All-America.

Blue Angels Fall Amid Flurries to SUNY Canton

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The College of New Rochelle hosted SUNY Canton in its softball home opener on Saturday at Flowers Park. The Blue Angels dropped both games of the doubleheader to the Roos. 

In the opener, Canton raced out to a big lead, scoring the game's first 18 runs before CNR plated two in the bottom of the third. The Blue Angels took advantage of three walks, using three steals, a wild pitch and a passed ball to score twice, with Katy Baudendistel and Kevona Jackson crossing the plate for CNR.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College softball team dropped both ends of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader to Canisius Monday afternoon at Donald E. Walsh Field. In the opener, after the Gaels took 5-1 lead, the Griffs answered with 12 unanswered runs in a 13-5 win. In the second game, Canisius used the momentum of a six run first inning to earn an 8-4 victory.
