New Rochelle Accepts “My Brother’s Keeper” Challenge

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle has joined hundreds of cities nationwide in accepting President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” challenge, the City announced Wednesday.

Aimed at improving life outcomes and opening up opportunities for all youth, especially young men of color, New Rochelle’s MBK initiative is a partnership of the City administration and City School District. Their first event, a Local Action Summit, will be held on Thursday, June 11 at New Rochelle High School. All interested community organizations and individuals are invited to attend.

Mustangs Win Pitcher’s Duel

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Last night the Monroe College Mustangs wrapped up a five-game sweep of their regular season series vs. Globe Institute of Technology to improve to 25-11 on the season by defeating them in a nine-inning contest by the score of 3-1.

In what turned out to be a pitcher's duel, freshman Jovian Gonzalez earned his second win of the season, throwing six scoreless innings. Freshman Anfernee Torruella threw two shutout innings in relief, and sophomore Juan Arias closed it out to earn his fifth save of the season.

Lehigh Tops Iona Baseball At Home

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College baseball team fell to Lehigh 11-1 in non-conference action at City Park.

The Mountainhawks scored twice in the opening inning following a two-out, two-run home run by SS John Elson. Elson hit just the third home run in three seasons at City Park.

Iona scored in the bottom of the second. Following a leadoff double by freshman 3B Seth Hoagland, the Gaels used two ground outs to get the run home with junior DH Zach Brown earning the RBI.

Late St. John's Rally Dooms Iona Baseball On The Road

QUEENS, NY - St. John's used a ninth-inning rally to come from behind in a 5-4 win over the Iona College baseball team in non-conference action at Kaiser Stadium.

Iona led 3-1 after three innings scoring a run in each frame. An infield single by junior C Carmine Palummo drove in senior LF Jimmy Guiliano with two-out in the first inning. With the score tied 1-1 in the second, sophomore 2B Tyler Bruno singled up the middle to score freshman CF Jon Budesa. Budesa picked up an RBI in the third inning with a base hit to score Palummo from second base.

Penn Relays Bring More Season Bests for Mustangs Track & Field Team

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Monroe Mustangs track and field team traveled to Philadelphia last week to participate in the Penn Relays — the oldest and largest meet in the U.S. 

The Lady Mustangs 4x100m team of Ernestine Conteh, Mikah Epps, Jaydean Joseph and Denesha Ransome achieved their fastest time of the season to date with a finish of 48:19. The 4x400m relay team of Atara Segree, Denesha Ransome, J'renda Rivera and Jayvona McDaniels ran a 4:05.53.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Governor Andrew Cuomo’s “Enough is Enough” statewide campaign to combat sexual assault on college campuses was the focus of a highly informative discussion held today by New York Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Hochul at The College of New Rochelle.

In an exclusive meeting with CNR students, faculty, and administrators, Lt. Governor Hochul spoke about the need to raise awareness of sexual assault on campuses, educate students about the Governor’s important new prevention policies, and petition lawmakers for passage of the legislation.

Iona's Kramarski Captures MAAC Championship; Gaels Finish Second

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL - Iona College golf freshman Kevin Kramarski needed a sudden-death play-off hole to break a 54-hole tie with Saint Peter's Nicholas Dilio to capture the 2015 MAAC Championship and the 30th McLeod Memorial Award at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course. Kramarski shot a third-round low three-under 69 to help lead the Gaels to a second place finish.

Rider Defeats Iona Baseball 6-1

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Rider defeated the Iona College baseball 6-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Sonny Pittaro Field.

The Broncs scored their six runs in their first five at bats. The Gaels' scored in their half of the sixth inning when senior 1B Jimmy Guiliano raced around from second on a wild pitch and an error by Rider catcher Eric Strano.
