NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- With the end of the current legislative session coming in June, the pressure is on once again for state lawmakers to pass a tax credit bill that would not only provide direct-tuition tax credits to low-income families sending their children to non-public schools, but also tax credits to teachers purchasing schools supplies.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has committed to advancing what is being called the Parental Choice in Education Act. Parents are being asked to voice their support for Bill No. A2551 to their local Assembly members.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Miss Universe 2013-2014, Gabriela Isler of Venezuela, stopped by Ursuline in late April to learn about our Personal Development program and the mission of The Ursuline School to Educate/Inspire/Empower young women. Ms. Isler has personally launched the Universe of Blessings Fund, an organization which seeks to empower young women and girls. She particularly enjoyed visiting a Catholic girls school as she, herself, is the product of a Catholic all-girls education.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Francisco Maldonado of New Rochelle was one of five youngsters honored by the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium  during the 48th annual salute of the Con Edison Yankees Kids program.

New York Yankees great Jim Leyritz (back row - right) presented official certificates. 

The Yankees Kids, one from each borough, Westchester County and one representing Orange and Rockland counties, are selected for their academic excellence, leadership and sportsmanship.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- David McKay Wilson, Tax Watch columnist for The Journal News, will deliver a lecture on Common Core as part of the New Rochelle Lion’s Club Lecture Series. Wilson will consider whether the opt-out movement is a temporary fad or a genuine American Revolution.

The public is welcome.

Wilson has written extensively about Westchester County since 1986. His assignments have included City Hall in New Rochelle and White Plains, the Statehouse in Albany, County governments in Westchester and Putnam, as well as Education.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- El Agave Azul Mexican Restaurant, located at 238 Washington Avenue, was shut down by the City of New Rochelle on May 1st after the building was declared “unsafe”.

The New Rochelle Quality of Life task force raided the restaurant on April 29th and observed numerous local and state code violations.
