New Rochelle Schools Superintendent Knew of Workplace Violence Threats for 8 Months, Failed to Act

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Talk of the Sound has obtained police records under a Freedom of Information request that show Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne was aware of terroristic threats to assassinate specific school district employees by an electrician working-foreman employed by the district as far back as September of 2014. Osborne took no action until last week after a second incident was reported to police and has denied a request for additional security at one elementary school.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Our Model UN club participated Model UN in action in the Dalton Model United Nations conference on April 25th. Students ably represented their assigned countries on different committees where they engaged in dialogues, and took part in drafting resolutions surrounding international affairs.

They had worked hard to prepare for the conference and were excellent representatives for the Ursuline School. The students who took part were Payton Bartz, Zoe Bowen, Alicia Brenmor, Daryn Chin, Kiliegh Ford, Ariel Johnson, Isabel Messerley, and Bianca Torres

LEWISTON, NY - The Iona College baseball team pounded out 14 hits, drew five walks and took advantage of seven Niagara errors in a 12-2 win in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Bobo Field. The Gaels took the three-game series from the Purple Eagles, putting base runners on in every inning except the ninth.

New Rochelle Police have been on the lookout for Welcha Level 3 Sex Offender from New Rochelle who has reportedly attacked several people on Main Street in recent days.

Iona Baseball Splits At Niagara; Rivera Posts 11 Ks In CG SHO

LEWISTON, NY - The Iona College baseball team forged a split with Niagara in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest at Bobo Field. The Purple Eagles edged the Gaels 3-2 in the opener before junior RHP Mariano Rivera tossed his second straight complete game shutout in a 5-0 win in the night cap.

The Gaels trailed 1-0 after the first inning when Niagara scored with two out. Iona could not complete a double play ball off the bat of 1B Michael Fuhrman allowing a run to score from third base.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Police are on the look out for a Level 3 Sex Offender from New Rochelle who has reportedly attacked several people on Main Street in recent days.

Christopher Welch, 38, is a registered sex offender from New Rochelle but is listed on the New York State Sex Offender Registry as residing at a homeless shelter in Valhalla. In 2009, Welch was convicted of persistent sexual abuse, a class “E” felony.

Welch is a male/black, 5’5”, weight 130 pounds, brown eyes/black hair.

New Rochelle Middle Schools Holds Career Day Event

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Isaac E. Young Middle School held its annual career day last weeks. Seventh grade students were provided an opportunity to learn about college and work from career professionals and City School District of New Rochelle Guidance and Counseling staff.

Students were offered five sessions covering a broad spectrum of information about colleges and a wide variety of jobs, including architect, chef, engineer, and lawyer.

Associate Superintendent Dr. Diane Massimo and District Coordinator of Guidance & Counseling Michael Kenny were on hand for the event.

Ursuline School Newspaper Wins Journalistic Honors

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The 2013-2014 staff of Unison, the Ursuline school newspaper received a Bronze Medal from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in its annual contest and critique of high school newspapers throughout the country. The medal was for newspapers submitted last spring.

On April 24, the current Unison staff along with faculty moderators participated in a phone conference with award winning journalist Claire Regan.

PEARL RIVER, NY – Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced the arrest of Kurien Palliankal, the owner of New Rochelle-based transportation company Carewell Ambulette, Inc., on felony charges for allegedly stealing more than $200,000 from the Medicaid program. The individual and his company are charged with altering transportation requests sent to them by medical facilities authorizing taxi pickups and dropoffs for Medicaid patients.
