NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Department of Parks and Recreation in conjunction with the City School District of New Rochelle – Triple E Program invites you to the 3rd Annual Kite Day.  This event will be held at Davenport Park on May 16th, 11am – 3pm.  Join us for a day of Food, Music, Kite Flying, Healthy Tasting Samples, Health & Wellness Expo, Family Fitness Games & Activities and more.  Kites will be available or feel free to bring your own kite!

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Iona College and New Rochelle communities gathered to break ground on Wednesday, May 6, at the site of the future North Avenue Student Residence Hall located on the corner of North and Summit Avenues. Students, staff, faculty, alumni, board of trustees and community partners assembled to celebrate the construction of the cutting-edge living space which will be unveiled in the fall of 2016.

New Rochelle High School Teacher Selected as Finalist for Teacher of the Year

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School Social Studies teacher Deborah Minchin has been selected as a finalist in the New York State Teacher of the Year Program. Minchin is one of five finalists for the award which will be presented in the fall.

The state program to recognize and celebrate an exceptionally skilled and passionate educator is part of the National Teacher of the Year Program. The winner will serve as an ambassador for New York State education and become the state nominee for National Teacher of the Year 

Iona Softball Eliminated From 2015 MAAC Championship

BUFFALO, NY - The sixth-seeded Iona College softball team was knocked out of the the 2015 MAAC Softball Championship after a pair of losses Thursday at Demske Sports Complex. After a victory over Manhattan yesterday, the Gaels were upended 6-2 by second-seeded Fairfield in the quarterfinal round. Fifth-seeded Siena then eliminated Iona with a 2-1 win later in the day.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The men and women's Monroe track and field teams proved that they are primed and ready to compete in the upcoming NJCAA Nationals during Princeton University's Princeton Open this past weekend. 

Leading the way was star Mustang runner Ronaldo Ball, who came in second place after running a personal best in the 1500m with a time of 4:00.08. Close behind him in fourth place was teammate Katleho Dyoyi, who finished in 4:01.51.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Mark Twain made a big hit with participants of the New Rochelle Public Library’s Big Read Kick-off Party on Sunday, May 3rd, as he strolled around the library during the afternoon of activities reflecting 1840’s St. Petersburg, Missouri. In addition to crafts, games and refreshments, participants enjoyed presentations by Cindy Lovell, Twain historian and Executive Director of the Mark Twain Museum in Hartford, CT, as well performances by Twain impersonator Alan Kitty and members of the Big Read Reader’s Theater Troupe.

PELHAM, NY -- On Thursday, May 14th at 7:30 p.m. The Picture House (TPH) will present a special screening of the Spike Lee produced film Manos Sucias (R; 84 mins.) with a post-film discussion with the film’s director Josef Kubota Wladyka. Wladyka is the recipient of the Best New Narrative Director Award at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Special Jury Award at the Huelva Latin American Film Festival for his work on Manos Sucias.

Freshmen Key In Iona Baseball Win Over NYIT At Home, 10-9

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College baseball team earned its fourth straight win, holding on in a 10-9 slugfest with NYIT in non-conference action at City Park. All five freshmen in the game contributed to the win combining for five hits and seven innings on the mound.

The Gaels trailed 1-0 after the first half inning and answered with two in their frame and never trailed again.
