Blue Angels Softball Outpaced by Briarcliffe College

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Briarcliffe College swept the Blue Angels in both ends of the non-conference doubleheader played Thursday at Flowers Park.

The Bulldogs kept the pressure on the CNR defense in the first game, outscoring the Blue Angels by a 20-0 count.  Christine Quinones tallied the lone hit for the Blue Angels, as the Briarcliffe pitcher allowed just three base runners.

CNR's best scoring chance came in the bottom of the first.  Quinones singled with one out and two straight walks loaded the bases before a double play erased the threat.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle residents poured off Metro-North trains, out of office buildings and apartment into the streets, in the middle of the rush hour crush were confronted with massed police activity throughout the downtown area. Police engaged in a high-speed pursuit in the downtown area including heading the wrong way into incoming traffic on Main Street before three suspects abandoned their vehicle, split up and sent dozens of police officers into foot pursuits.

The incident ended with no on hurt, three suspects in custody and a car impounded near the train station.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Last night the Democratic Party held its nominating convention. As expected, Noam Bramson was nominated as the Party’s Mayoral candidate. So far, so good. Jared Rice (District 3), Ivar Hyden (District 4) and Barry Fertel (District 5 ) were all nominated for re-election. Still right on target. As expected (we tweeted this a month ago), Luis Zepeda was nominated to challenge incumbent Louis Trangucci (District 1). The Democrats did not nominate a candidate to challenge incumbent Albert Tarantino (District 2). All according to the Bramson plan.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Forty-third Annual Strawberry Festival sponsored by The College of New Rochelle was held on Sunday, May 3 at the Wellness Center. During the event, the College hosted a fun-filled day of outdoor activities, music, entertainment, and strawberry treats for families. New this year was a bounce house and climbing rock, as well as an exciting giant slide. There was also face painting, sports challenge, dunk tank, water game challenge, henna tattoos and more.
