NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The public will have the opportunity to meet Yankee great Mariano Rivera, and receive a signed copy of his acclaimed book, The Closer, at two different events on the evening of May 28th at the New Rochelle Public Library. Mr. Rivera is volunteering his time to help the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library raise funds for a new bookstore.

NEW YORK, NY -- Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that Elehecer Balaguer pled guilty today in Manhattan federal court to aiming the beam of a laser pointer at commercial airliners in the vicinity of LaGuardia Airport on March 9, 2015. Balaguer was arrested on March 16, 2015, and pled guilty today before United States District Judge Jed S. Rakoff to aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft.

Iona Prep Crew Has Sterling Day At Long Island Championships

OYSTER BAY, NY -- Iona Prep Crew had an outstanding day at the Long Island Championships in Oyster Bay this past weekend, earning three Silver Medals and one Bronze.

The Varsity 4+ of seniors Hameed Mourani, Brian O'Grady, Christian Laraia and Kyle Griffin with Nick Tornatore as coxswain won a Silver medal in their event.

Blue Angels Falls to St. Joe's in Non-Conference Action Softball

BELLEROSE, NY – In their first meeting since nearly upsetting the Lady Bears, the Blue Angels were unable to overcome dominant St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn pitching, dropping both ends of a non-conference twin bill at Padavan-Preller Field. 

In the opener, the Lady Bears jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning and cruised to a 10-0 win. Lyndsey Edwards tallied the lone CNR hit for the game, singling with two out in the top of the first.  Sheila Conde went the distance for the Blue Angels, striking out two.

York Posts Comeback Win Over College of New Rochelle Softball

NEW YORK, NY – In an single game played on Randall's Island, York College slipped past The College of New Rochelle, 12-4, this afternoon in non-conference action.

The Blue Angels produced all of their scoring output in the top of the first, scoring four runs on one hit, taking advantage of two Cardinal errors and three walks.  Lyndsey Edwards, Jah-Leah Ellis and Lee-Anne Daley each tallied a RBI for CNR in the inning.

Purchase Overpowers College of New Rochelle Softball

PURCHASE, NY – The College of New Rochelle traveled to Purchase, NY to take on Purchase College in a non-conference doubleheader and came up short in both ends of the twin bill. 

The Panther starting pitchers did not allow a hit over all 10 innings.  Two Purchase errors in the opener spoiled what would have been a perfect game, as did a single walk in the nightcap.

The opener saw the Panthers score two in the first and one in the second to open up a 3-0 lead en route to an 11-0 scoreline.  In the second game, a six run bottom of the first propelled Purchase to a 12-0 win.

Three Teens Hijack Town Car, Tie Up Driver, Flee into Nature Study Woods in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Two teens were arrested Tuesday and a third was still on the loose after the trio hijacked a Pel-Town Taxi and attempted a strong arm robbery of the driver.

The driver called police at 2:06 p.m. and reported that he picked up a fare beginning in Pelham, NY and ending on Pershing Avenue in New Rochelle.

He said that as he arrived at Pershing Avenue he suddenly had a rope around his neck.

New Roc City: When Pigeons Attack!

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A gray pigeon went on a rampage at New Roc City last Thursday and Talk of the Sound has the video to prove it.

Diane Daniels, a New Rochelle resident, gave Talk of the Sound a breathless account of a harrowing encounter with a territorial pigeon who did not take kindly to Daniels and several other shoppers at New Roc City encroaching on its space.
