Iona Softball Splits Regular Season Finale At Siena

LOUDONVILLE, NY - The Iona College softball team completed its regular season Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader split at Siena. The Gaels dropped game one 8-0, before winning game two 7-5.

In the opener, the Gaels were held to just two hits in the contest by Siena starter Amanda Gatt and never had more than one runner on base in a single inning. Offensively, Siena 1B Paige Lloyd and CF Lauren Milligan both drove in three runs apiece for the Saints in the game. Redshirt sophomore RHP Christine Costello took the loss, allowed four runs in 5.0 innings of work.

STAMFORD, CA - Continuing her story book 2014-15 cross country and track season, junior Kate Avery competed at the 2015 Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational, hosted by Stanford University. Avery set a school record and earned a world standard time in the 10,000-meter event.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College softball team dropped both ends of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader to Fairfield Saturday afternoon at Donald E. Walsh Field. The Stags outlasted the Gaels 8-5 in 12 innings in game one, before taking the finale 6-0.

Sophomore SS Katie Newton continued her recent string of strong play with a team best four hits on the day. Over the last six games, Newton has hit at a .588 clip.

NEW BRITAIN, CT - The Iona College baseball team used two stellar pitching efforts in a doubleheader sweep of Central Connecticut in non-conference action at CCSU Baseball Field. Junior RHP Mariano Rivera threw his second one-hit shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory in the opener and graduate LHP Eddie Macaluso scattered seven hits over six innings in a 3-2 win in the night cap.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The League of Women Voters of New Rochelle is sponsoring a Forum for candidates running for the New Rochelle Board of Education and for New Rochelle Library Trustees on Monday, May 11 at the Ossie Davis Auditorium of the New Rochelle Public Library.  The school board candidates will appear at 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. and the library candidates from 7 to 7:45 p.m.
