Astorino Wins BOL Approval For Revitalization Of Playland

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- By a vote of 17-0, the Board of Legislators (BOL) on Monday approved Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino’s agreement with New York-based Standard Amusements for the management and revitalization of Playland. Under the agreement, Standard Amusements will invest $25 million in private money into Playland over the next five years, securing the long-term future of the county’s iconic 100-acre amusement park in Rye.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The intersection of Pinebrook Boulevard and Forest Avenue was busy today. 

Early on Monday morning, shortly after midnight, a a tree limb fell on an electrical line knocking out power to the neighborhood. Later in the day a taxi crashed through a guard rail on Pinebrook near Forest Avenue.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library Foundation is sponsoring the “I Found It At The Library” Video Short Contest

It is a Short Video Contest open to New Rochelle Residents Grades 9-12 with a First Prize $1,000.

A panel of industry professionals will judge the entries and award first prize $1000, second prize $500 and third prize $250.

Participants must be New Rochelle residents entering grades 9-12 this September.

New Rochelle Schools Union Reaches Tentative Agreement on 3-Year Deal with 5.1% Across-the-Board Raises

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- FUSE and the City School District of New Rochelle reached a tentative contract settlement late last week.

The three year deal includes across-the-board raises in each of the three years of the agreement.

The over all across-the-board raise for the three years is 5.1%. That breaks down as 2% in year one and 1.5% in years two and three.

There is no change to health insurance contributions in year one of the contract.

Woman Found Deceased in New Rochelle Apartment; Dead For Two Weeks, Police Say

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A person doing a welfare check on a resident of a Centre Avenue apartment near Isaac E. Young Middle School reported the person deceased. An initial police estimate was the person had been dead for two weeks.

Police reported that the 51-year old woman was found dead with a sheet pulled over the body in the same apartment where police received a report of a suicide attempt using pills in February, 2014. The death will be treated as a homocide until determined otherwise.

Daring Daylight Home Invasion in East New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE - New Rochelle Police made one arrest and are looking for three other suspects in a brazen daylight home invasion on Stephenson Boulevard near East Main Street. Police were able to pull a license plate off a surveillance video for a red truck which served as the getaway vehicle.

The call came into police at 3:46 p.m. for an incident that the victim had occurred 20 minutes earlier, shortly before 3:30 p.m.

NOT ARSON: Car Explosion and Fire in Downtown New Rochelle Parking Lot Not Arson

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Investigators from the New Rochelle Police Department General Investigations Unit and the New Rochelle Fire Department Arson Investigation Unit have determined that an explosion and car fire that damaged five vehicles last night in downtown New Rochelle not not arson.
