Man Dies at New Rochelle Homeless Shelter

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Police were called to the Oasis Shelter at 19 Washington Avenue in New Rochelle, NY after a report that a person had died overnight at the shelter. The call came in at 5:39 a.m.

“The death was not suspicious,” said Sgt. Kyle Wilson.

The Westchester Medical Examiner was called to the scene and removed the body this morning.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Henry Williams, 62, of Mamaroneck, NY was arrested by the New Rochelle Police Department on charges of Menacing-2nd Degree, Assault-3rd Degree, Reckless Endangerment-Second Degree, all misdemeanors, after he discharged a handgun during a crowded party at the Elks Empire Lodge at 137 Lincoln Avenue.

“Someone discharged a weapon, a gun was discharged into the ground and one person is complaining they were hit with fragmentation from that discharged round”, said Sgt. Adam Castiglia.

Close to $10,000 Goes Missing in New Rochelle Tax Office, Police Launch Investigation

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Police Department has launched an investigation after receiving a referral from New Rochelle City Manager Charles B. Strome following an internal investigation by the City’s Finance Department.

The internal investigation revealed a $9,500 discrepancy in cash deposits.

The missing funds came to light through internal control measures in place at the Finance Department. The internal investigation revealed that a cash deposit was not made according to established procedures.

Nine Firefighters Injured Responding to 2-Alarm House Fire in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Nine fighters were injured as the New Rochelle Fire Department responded to a stubborn house fire that largely gutted a house on Paine Avenue in New Rochelle. The fire was called in by a neighbor shortly before 10:30 a.m. and was not declared "under control" until 5:30 a.m.

The event honored department members for their outstanding contributions as well as the memory of those officers who sacrificed their lives in the service to the City. 

Police Officer of the Year was presented to Police Officer Dwayne Jones.
