Astorino Announces $2.1m Grant to Fund Permanent Homes for Chronically Homeless Residents

WHITE PLAINS, NY - In recognition of the county’s successful efforts in addressing homelessness, Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today announced that the Department of Social Services (DSS)has been awardeda $2.1 million federal grant to continue its efforts to get people out of shelters and into permanent housing. 

The Turning Point Grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development will cover leasing and moving costs as well as administrative services to get up to 100 people into permanent housing.

Building on the success of the 2015 Big Read of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer this past May and June, the library’s theme of “The Adventures Continue!” has inspired workshops, live performance and films for elementary school-aged children. The opening show on Tuesday, July 7, from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm, will feature Conroy Warren, a magnetic, diverse performer. All ages will enjoy the vibrant show and will have a chance to try their skill at doing the limbo. Steven Nakashima presented 21 police officers, their chiefs and commissioners, along with Health Commissioner Sherlita Amler, MD, with certificates of special recognition on Thursday for saving the lives of more than a dozen people in Westchester who were near death due to an opiate overdose during the past year.

NEW ROCHELLE NY - The New Rochelle Police Department (P.A.C.T.) and the New Rochelle Police Foundation announce the 2015 Community Youth Fishing Program for boys and girls ages 10-15. Four trips are scheduled Wednesdays this summer: July 1, 8, 15; and August 12. Registration is open on a first come, first served basis.
